Now, her at 20 with no promise of love or a man, her mother and Mrs. Clifford, pushing her to get to know the boys more, to give them a chance. But she always refused. Till one afternoon she was walking home and heard the sound of a violin. A beautiful sound echoing through the field of the Clifford property.
She was genuinely curious as to who was over playing such beauty. She went over and peeked over the gate, and saw it was coming from James' workshop. She never knew what he did in there, she never cared either.
'Maybe a guest is over?' Violet thought to herself
She swiftly put in the Clifford's gate pin, the same since she was 12. The gate opened, and she walked straight over to the workshop that was a little bigger than a shed. As she walked she enjoyed the song being played, she could tell it was played with feelings and passion. She got right to the door, it was open, she saw the back of a very tall man. He was wearing a white shirt and black jeans, his hair a light brown on the shaggy side, his shoulders strong.'James plays the violin?' She thought. Violet never thought much of James, she also didn't know him, they were never close or talked much when she was little. He was always away in here, or in a book.
She leaned on the door frame, closed her eyes and listened to the rest of the song. Soaking in the melody, she felt her body get chills, feeling the music in my heart. She began to harmonize along with his playing.
James had been waiting all day for his family to leave, so he could sneak in some playing, his family didn't understand why he liked it so much. They recognize he was good of course, but they didn't want him to play as a career like James wants.
On his way to his workshop he thought about his mother's conversation with his father he had overheard. That Violet doesn't want to marry Samuel or any the twins, which of course he can't blame her, they are on all levels awful. Yet the words he heard worried him.
"Well, we still have James. Maybe she will marry him!"
It's not as if he doesn't think Violet isn't pretty, he is well aware of the fact that all the guys who want to marry, yet stay way, with the promise of her marrying one of the Cliffords. He just was too shy to try and get her attention. He knew when they were younger she liked Samuel, so he never tried, now he felt her image of the Clifford were ruined.
He grabbed the case and opened it, positioned the violin and began to play, getting lost in the melody and the feeling of the song. Closing his eyes he played with all he had. Halfway through the song he heard a woman's voice harmonizing to his song. He didn't dare turn around at first not wanting to scare her, he just played and listened to this mystery woman with a beautiful voice.
He slowly turned around, struck with a tiny woman with long orange hair, and pale skin leaning on his door frame, with her eyes closed enjoying my song. Her lips making a beautiful song. He played the last chord, staring at her with awe, and soon she opened her eyes, she froze, with a blush forming on her white cheeks.
When Violet opened her eyes she saw, bright green eye staring at her, then she realized she had been singing and listening without him knowing. She has been caught. She blushed.
"Oh, ahhh. Sorry, I- uh heard you playing from my gate, so I came over."
Violet tried to explain her reason for being there, taking a big breath, "You're an amazing player"
"Oh, Violet, Hello. Thanks. You can harmonize well, specially when you don't know the song." James replied with a smile, showing off his dimples and bright white teeth.
"Oh, thanks" Violet looked down smiling and blushing, pushing her hair behind her ear.
The two stared at each other in silence till James spoke,
"Do you play?"Violet smiled and shook her head,
"No, but I wish I did. I can play the piano though.""Oh that's nice, you know I could teach you." As soon as James let the words come through he regretted it. He was afraid she thought it was too forward.
Til she replied with "I'd love that" with a huge smile.James didn't understand why she wasn't married yet, she was really sweet from what he could see. Samuel was an idiot.
"So when do you want to start?"
"Tomorrow.?" James said with skepticism
"What time?" Violet was skeptical with James Was he different from his brother? Is he cruel like the twins? He doesn't seem so. Is he a player? I've never heard or seen him with any girl. She thought to herself.
"Noon?" James said happily
"Perfect."
"Do you want to listen to another song?" James asked not wanting her to leave.
"Sorry, I can't. My mother is probably wondering where I went. I'll see you tomorrow though." She said with a wink and turned to leave.
"Oh, see you tomorrow." James said as she walked out.
He walked over to the door and closed it.——-
