Cassie - eight years old. *flashback* then back to *present*
***
We were in my fathers large but intricately designed office as he packed forefully. He shoved paper after paper into his brief case. He was sad, I could tell.
"Daddy!" I exclaimed, hoping that he would just look at me. It was not just his life that had turned upside down when my mother had died.
"Yes?" He sighed exasperatedly, shoving some more papers into his brief case.
"Why are you leaving?" I asked, looking down at my feet.
"We have already gone over this, Cassie," he winced. He was probably wincing because he had to say my name. After my mother had died he had never looked at me or spoken to me the same. I looked too much like her. I always tried to ignore the hurt I felt each time he would wince or look at me with those empty eyes. I was trying now, trying to swollow the lump that had formed in my throat. I looked up, hoping he was looking at me, but he wasn't.
"You will be looked after well by my Beta, Uncle Enzo."
My heart dropped as I looked down again. I loved my uncle but all I wanted was his love, to be loved and approved of by him. He would never understand. I already had Enzo's love, and a best friend in his son who was only older than me by a few days.
"How long will he look after me?" I asked. I wanted to be back with my father as soon as I could. Maybe he'd be happy when I saw him next.
"I don't know, I just don't." He finally looked at me, but not in the way I was hoping. His eyes were empty as he sighed like I was a bug under his shoe.
The door opened loudly, my father and I both looked over as Enzo entered the room. Enzo looked disaproovingly over at my father before turning to me with a smile.
I stared at my new father figure knowing he would be looking after me for the next seven years.
"Cassie!" Someone shouted my name.
"Cassie!" It got louder.
Then suddenly I was in a free fall, like an angel.

"Cassie!" Mr Doring yelled at me, glaring. I looked away from his sharp and angry eyes. The whole class was staring at me. The pupils were either giggling or looking at me worriedly.
"Yes?" I asked expectantly. He shouldn't be glaring at me like that because even though I hated it, I was Cassie Michaels. The sixteen year old daughter of an alpha. Even though I'd been brought up with my mothers sisters family, which included her husband and son, I was still the daughter of alpha Jake. The same alpha who couldn't look at me straight because I looked too much like my dead mother. Even if the teacher didn't see me as the alphas daughter, I was still brought up by my aunts husband: Beta Enzo. I was still high up in the ranks.
"Just pay attention to class," the teacher said, annoyed. He went back to the board, muttering profanities under his breath.
Ignoring him, I started thinking about my family and how amazing my true family was even if biologically they were only my aunt, uncle and cousin. Most people thought that Tyler and I were twins because we both had brown hair and silvery blue-green eyes. He was only my cousin but to me he was more than that, to me he was the perfect brother.
Then my thoughts moved onto the future. Tomorrow I would turn seventeen and finding my mate would be any day now, from today and after. I was so excited for the time when I could cuddle up on the sofa with no other breaching thoughts, when I would only be thinking of my mate. But what if he rejected me because I was different. I wouldn't be able to handle my mate's rejection, I had already lived through my fathers. What if he rejected me because of the creatures who searched for the soft chocolate coated werewolves, and I was one of those wolves. I was a lycan, an elite werewolf.
