I let them go.

I fell through the air towards the forest floor. My screams filled the air as gravity pulled me down. Something sharp hit me as I was going down. I let my eyes close and not open again.

I was going to die.

My body stopped falling mid air and then I blacked out.

Four hours later...

My eyes snapped open. Though I could not see a thing but blurry hazes. My body hurts. My heart is pounding in my chest and my head throbbed from falling.

I let my eyes clear. To my amazement I didn't hit the ground. My backpack caught up on a really large tree as I fell.

I scanned around for any signs of a downed chopper. Nothing.

I knew I had to find Lizzy and Carl but I needed to get out of this tree without hurting myself.

I wasn't far from the ground. That was my only advantage. I slipped on arm out of my large backpack straps and grabbed the branch that had stopped my fall. My body was sore. That caused my motions to be slower.

I looked down to see a few branches I could toss my bag on to. With no presice aim I tossed the bag onto the branch. It managed to slip in between the branches. That sent it tumbling to the ground.

At this point I started to lower myself down to the two branches below me. Unlike the bag I perched on the branches and looked down once again to see a few more branches that webt to the ground.

I stepped off the branch I was on.

Big mistake.

My feet slipped out from under me, sending me towards the base of the tree. My body slammed into the ground. To my surprise I made a huge hole. The book bag was farther away and my surroundings looked stressed at the impact. I stood up and looked at the spot I had landed.

"What the fuck?"

I shook my head and wiped my eyes then returned my vision to the massive hole.

"How the hell did I do that?"

I shrugged my shoulders and walked over to my bag and slung it over my shoulders and started into the deep scary forest.

It was oddly quiet.

My heart pounded against my breast. I was scared something was going to attack me.

I looked up into the sky. The sun showed that it was probably only twelve-thirty. My eyes came back to the woods that stood in front of me and continued to walk.

My mouth became dry after a while. I removed my book bag and unzipped the largest pouch that held it's most important contents. I pulled out the sater bottle abd took a small swig from ot and then set it into the side pouch so I could reach it easier.

Sweat dripped down my face and arms. My body felt gross from the humidity. The forest was still completely silent except for the leaves that crunched under my feet.

The sun was now just going under the treeline casting a orange tinge behind all the leaves. It was very eery.

I forced my aching body to keep moving.

"Left, right, left, right..."

I had to stop.

The pain was too horrible. My mind couldn't hide the fact that I may never find Carl and Lizzy ...

I found a large tree that had lots of space to climb.

I walked over to the tree and felt the oakish bark. It felt rough under my fingers and left a tingle in my body. I looked up the tree to see lots of healthy branches that would possibly hold my weight.

With dare devil ambition; I climbed the tree branch by branch. My heart felt like it was going to explode from so much walking and so much pain. (Mentally and physically.)

I found a spot in the tree where all the top branches sprouted around the vertical branch. I weaved through the branches and stepped inside the opening.

The forest laid below me in a quilt like pattern. All the trees held orange, red and golden leaves of autumn. It was simply breath taking. It took my mind away from the pain of any possibility of losing my friends and Erin.

Something caught my eye as I was looking around. Straight in front of me in the distance there was a dark black smoke rising from the forest floor. I spotted a ton of trees that looked as if they had fallen during a crash.

They had to be the cause of the smoke.

It was too far to walk in the dark. The sun was now starting to inch below the treeline. The sky was orange and pink. There were no clouds to be seen.

I was hungry. I opened my book bag and pulled out an energy bar. I unwrapped the tin wrap that contained the food. My shaky hands pulled the granola bar out of the package and pulled apart into a bunch of bite size pieces. I brought a piece to my lips and savoured it as I watched the sun fall. The moon was in the sky before I knew it.

The night brought horrifying screams and scary sounds. My nerves we're on a sharp wire all night. I couldn't sleep. I watched the stars twinkle above me until the sky went reddish and pink. I could tell the sun was coming up. I looked down and saw no danger.

My body felt a little better but my mind didn't.

I pulled out a pen I kept in my bag and glanced around searching for any moss. I found a large spot on the tree that held a family of moss and bacteria.

Sure enough it was facing the smoke that was rising in black deathly clouds. I clicked the pen

Click

I scribbled the word NORTH on my arm and looked at the smoke with determination.

I climbed back down the tree. This time I didn't fall. When my feet were fermmly planted on the ground i made a mad dash north.

There was no stopping me. I had to find them.
