Faith sat on her porch, drawing in her notebook, when her grandmother came out.
"Hey." She said, putting down her notebook. "Hey. How are you doing?"
Faith sighed. "Better. It's just hard." Her grandmother smiled sadly. "I know."
Faith smiled. "What if somebody isn't who they say they are?" She whispered, remembering when her first grade best friend betrayed her. She'd decided not to trust anyone anymore after that.
"You just need to be careful and watch out for that."
Faith nodded. "I guess." Her grandmother tilted her head. "You okay, Faith?"
Faith nodded again. "I'm fine."
But she was thinking about her friend, Alvar. Whenever she'd asked him why his name was Alvar, he'd always change the subject.
Almost as if he were hiding something..
