I ran out of the house sobbing, our rabbit - Simba - had passed away while I was in school. I ran as far out into the woods as my deaf ears would allow and dumped myself onto a tree stump. I closed my eyes to help myself relax but all I saw was him, jumping around in my little mind. I jolted up and opened my
eyes I saw a deer run past and was startled off balance. I put out my left hand out expecting the damp sensation of the autumn dirt but instead was greeted by fur. I turned my head to see a snowy white wolf, sat, staring into my eyes. I blinked, "Hello..." I said in what I thought could have been a whisper. Cautiously I started to stroke it - then gradually I became friendlier with her.
Later I looked to the side to see a girl, rather than the she-wolf that was there before. Her hair was white, her face pale like she was a living snow sculpture. I could have screamed but I knew my parents were searching, they would freak out if they heard a scream. They'd probably already called Uncle Sam to patrol these woods with "heat sensitive cameras" or the "Kristin detectors" as they like to call them.
I blinked a few times, confused by the fact that one moment a wolf then a girl.
"Hey," she spoke. "I'm Alana."
"Kristin" I mouthed.
She nodded. "Hiding from your parents?" she signed.
I nodded,
She rised to her feet "Wanna run?" she asked.
I smiled, "Take that as a yes then! Come on!" She pulled me to my feet.
We ran for minutes, I didn't come into the wood often so I just followed her lead. She normally put her hand out to show which direction she was going next and we ran side by side. Just me and my new best friend. After a while, we arrived at what looked like a wild village, everywhere plants, small wooden structures. People's heads popping out from the huts - messy heads of hair, dirt on their faces. A woman came up behind me and started to smell me. I twitched and pushed away, now if there's one thing I hate, is when random people come up close to me. The woman snarled and I growled back; surprised by my own reaction I covered my mouth and turned away. I turned back only to see Alana blocking me from another wolf. I gasped and ran, I could feel the others staring through me.
That evening Alana came to check up on me where we had first met at the tree, but one thing thing wasn't right, she brought the woman. I saw her and immediately stood up and stared - she glared back at me. Alana sighed and started signing to me, "This is Anthia she's part of my pack."
"Your pack?" I frowned , "What are you? Wild animals?"
"Well..." She paused.
"What are you saying?" I saw Anthia's lips move around the words.
Alana blocked her and continued talking to me, "you're a wolf, we are too, we can heal your hearing as well."
My eyes widened in disbelief, "my hearing?" I signed. I glanced between Anthia and Alana.
"we can heal her can't we?" Alana smiled excitedly.
Anthia nodded at me which made me smile the largest smile in the world.
