PRELOQUE
Jake was adopted at the age of six. He was screaming and shouting at everyone he called family and as he thought of them, his heart filled with hate. “Who are these people? They can’t love me_ how could anyone love me?” He thought silently, ‘I am a nuisance, extra work for them.’ What was worse is that he knew they were scared of him, that maybe they had made a mistake adopting him. It was because he was different, he was not like his two perfect ‘siblings’ who were not cursed and were always so polite and neat. His siblings teased him, bullied him, and made him feel like a stranger. His room reflected the darkness in his soul. He was overflowing with anger at this point and could not control his screaming when his adoptive brother teased him. He hated him with everything he had so that eventually he turned into the person he most despises in this world_ his Biological father. Jake could not control his next actions, he flew at his brother, clutching him while he squirmed in his grasp. Jake focused his chi on his brother’s beating heart until it grew so large in his chest that his eyes almost popped out of their sockets and his chest exploded, blood splattering all over Jake.
It became clear that this was a failed test and he was to be isolated. They must have known this would happen. Why had Alex ever listened to his foolish friend? When they first met Jake, he was so young but looked wizened and exhausted from his many years of pain and suffering his father had inflicted on him and his little sister before killing her in a similar way to how Jake had just killed his adoptive brother. Jake could not love. How could they have ever expected him to forget and move on, to be able to trust and accept a new family. He did not want to be told what to do, he didn't trust authority and he believed that adults were worse than children because they either did nothing or too much and they never told him the truth.
Chapter One
“Take a seat.” Alex motioned his hand toward a chair opposite the one Michael was now sitting in, smiling at Jake with a look of concern in his eyes. Jake sat as he was ordered. Jake could see that the look in Alex’s eyes was of distrust and a hint of disgust and he wondered if it was directed at him? He could not tell. “We are sorry to have brought you here the way we did but we need you to tell us everything you remember before you...”
Jake glared at this man with the white hair and stern hazel eyes. He was far too smartly dressed and made Jake uncomfortable. He decided to rather look at Michael, with his messy blonde hair and goofy smile, his eyes teal blue and beautiful. What a strange guy, and so happy in this world. It was alien to see someone smile this much and for no reason. It made Jake both nervous and calm all at once. Until he looked back at Alex, returning the same serious look as he said what Alex was thinking. “Killed my brother.” Michael’s smile fading.
“Yes, before you murdered your brother.” Alex looking at Michael with disappointment showing on his face, a silent communication between them, an “I told you so”.
Jake laughed, “You could say it was murder, but i say he deserved it. I know you are only interested in me and my real family, not what my adoptive brother did to me, so I’ll skip all that and get right to the point. All I remember was my father standing over my mother’s body. I remember I heard screaming and my little sister grabbed my hand. We ran outside and my father caught her in a paralysis bind, I tried to pull her out but couldn’t, she told me to keep running and not look back. I was scared and stood there for a while, my father caught up to us and got her by the hair as she managed to slip out of the bind but it was too late, he caught her again and I kept running because she told me to but I had to turn back to make sure she was still following, I did not want to leave my sister but he...” Jake’s eyes glazed over and tears fell onto his cheeks.
