My name is Cassidy Eden Hooper. I was born on October 16, 1993 in Tupelo, Mississippi at the Tupelo Women's Hospital. My parents are Tony Burrell Hooper and Regina Lynn Strickland Hooper. As soon I was born, I had puffy hands and feet and other features that were similar to those of a female baby with Turner Syndrome. I started having heart issues and the doctors soon found out that I had coarctation of the aorta. They had to get it repaired so I had to have open heart surgery at only 9 days old. When all this was going on, the doctor knew something was going on, so he ran a test called a karyotype and sure enough, it confirmed that I had Turner Syndrome. My parents knew nothing about Turner Syndrome at the time so of course they were scared. A uninformed doctor told them that I was going to be mentally handicapped. (Boy, was he wrong?!) As soon I recovered from surgery, I was well enough to come home. That's the story of how I was diagnosed.
