Half an hour later the pair were climbing out of the car and heading towards the shopping centre in search of the perfect outfit. They walked round and round the rails, Jac's fingers trailing across the different materials with a frown etched upon her forehead.
"There must be something that you like Jac?" Fletch finally spoke up after following her around the fourth shop without any luck.
"Shut up Fletcher, you were the one who dragged me here in the first place." She snapped back.
"I was not complaining." He said, holding his hands up in defence. "Hey listen stop for a minute." He caught her arm, pulling her to stand still in front of him. "Why don't we go and get some lunch and then can try again after? You'll be refreshed and in a better mindset by then."
"Okay. Gregg's?" She asked.
"Gregg's." He replied with a wide smile.

Ten minutes later, the pair were sat tucked into a table in the corner with their sausage rolls.
"Don't you think it's a bit weird me going to my ex's wedding?" Jac asked after swallowing a mouthful.
"Well you're not going for Jonny, you're doing it for Emma so no not really." He shrugged. "Plus I'm going and I barely know the man."
"Yeah but it's not even like I'm taking someone with me. I'm turning up to my ex's wedding alone, what does that say about me?"
"That you don't need a man to be you?" Fletch tried.
"More that I can't keep a man by my side because I'm a bitch."
"Well we both know that's not true." He turned his gaze away from her slightly, avoiding eye contact.
"You know what I mean," The surgeon rolled her eyes. "You don't count, it's not like that between us. Is it?"
The man stayed quiet for an extended period of time and finally dragged his eyes back to hers. "You seemed to make it pretty clear that it wasn't like that before."
"And it's not. I think this is way too past professional to the point there's no going back. But I think friends is a good place for us. Uncomplicated and good. Right?"
"Mhm. Just friends. Great." The man muttered. "Now, let's go and get you sorted out then shall we." He stood up and started walking out.
Well that went well didn't it Naylor you idiot, you've hurt him again, she thought as she gathered up her handbag to follow him.
