Summer Sunsets

Jeon Jungkook, a 15 year old high school student. He was rather smart and intelligent for his age, therefore he would graduate early. "Eomma, I'm heading out." Jungkook yelled from the bottom of the staircase. Once Jungkook left the house he went to an abandoned building to watch the sunset. Once Jungkook got settled and got his snack out Min Yoongi could be heard making his way up the latter to be with Jungkook. "Hey kookie." Yoongi greeted as he sat next to Jungkook. The roof was set up very nice by them, they had a couch, blankets, and pillows. They also had a makeshift shack in case it rained. "He did it again hyung." Jungkook said looking down with tears coming down from his eyes. "Kookie I keep telling you, let me have five minutes in the room with that man." Yoongi said full of anger as he hugged Jungkook. No one but Yoongi knows that Jungkook's stepfather has been sexually abusing him. "No, it will just make things worse." Jungkook said. 


After they watch the sunset Jungkook returns home to his parents arguing and his little brother crying in his crib. Jungkook sighs at the sight of what he comes home to each day, he picks up his little brother and goes into his room and puts on the tv for him. "Spongebob!" Jung-mu squealed as he clapped along to the theme song making Jungkook chuckle at his cuteness. As Jung-mu watches tv Jungkook starts to talk on the phone with Yoongi. "I won't be at school tomorrow." Yoongi said making Jungkook's smile fade a bit. "Why not?" Jungkook asked full of concern, knowing Yoongi never misses a day. "It's complicated." Yoongi replied. "Oh, well, I will call you after school tomorrow then." Jungkook said earning an "Okay." from Yoongi. "I want bacon and waffles." Yoongi said with a pout. "Well let's go to that breakfast restaurant uptown." Jungkook stated. "Okay, I will come to pick you up in like ten minutes." Yoongi said as he got up from his bed. "Okay, Jung-mu is coming too. I don't want him here with my parents while they're arguing." Jungkook said as he got Jung-mu dressed to leave. Soon Yoongi comes and picks up Jungkook and Jung-mu and they go to the restaurant. Once they order Jungkook and Yoongi start to talk while Jung-mu colors on his kid menu. "If things ever get worse for you, come move in with my dad and I. He would love to have you guys with us." Yoongi said as Jungkook looked at his phone. "I know but I just can't leave. That's my home, the place I grew up and know most." Jungkook replied. "I know leaving home isn't easy but sometimes you have to make a sacrifice." Yoongi said as he sipped his coffee giggling at the funny noises Jung-mu makes. 

Once they got done eating they went home and went off to bed. The next day Yoongi wakes up to sharp shooting pains in his chest, so much pain that he could barely move. Yoongi called for his dad, as his dad rushed in Yoongi's nose started to bleed. "Come on son we're going to the hospital." Yoongi's dad said as he picked up the small boy rushing to the hospital. Once at the hospital, the doctors run many tests on Yoongi, and finally, get an answer. As Yoongi's dad watches his son lay in the hospital bed weak, pale, and looking helpless the doctor comes in. "What's wrong with him?" Yoongi's Dad asks. "Leukemia." The doctor says making Yoongi's dad drop to his seat in shock. "We will start the treatment as soon as possible." The doctor says as he leaves the room. Dad walks over to Yoongi and kisses his head making Yoongi look up at him. "I'm strong Dad, I can beat it." Yoongi says weakly smiling, making his dad smile as well.

A few weeks go by and Yoongi is admitted into the hospital and Jungkook went to the roof each week to find Yoongi still not there, the older's phone broke so they had no way of communicating with each other. Jungkook started to get picked on more in school without Yoongi by his side. He fell into a deep depression due to the bullying, he couldn't take it anymore. He wanted to confess his love for Yoongi but he couldn't because he had no clue where Yoongi was. Yoongi's dad sold the house and bought an apartment closer to the hospital in case Yoongi needed to be rushed to the hospital again. Yoongi's cancer got worse to the point where he couldn't do anything but lay in his hospital bed. 

Three years go by, Jungkook still heard nothing from Yoongi or his father. Jungkook is sitting at the kitchen table on his phone as his mom cooks breakfast. "Eomma, why did Yoongi and his father move all of a sudden?" Jungkook asked. "I'm not sure baby. Maybe they just wanted to move, who knows." His mom said as she put breakfast on the table. Later that day Jungkook, Jung-mu, and his mother went to the grocery store, that's when they ran into Yoongi's father. "Mr.Min, is Yoongi at home?" Jungkook asked. "No, he isn't at home right now." He said avoiding eye contact. "Does he still have his phone?" Jungkook asked. "Uh, no it broke. Excuse me I have to go now." He said as he pushed his cart and walked away. "That was weird." Mom said as she continued down to the bread section. Once there Jungkook ran into someone in shades, and a skull cap. "Oh I'm sorry." Jungkook said, not even knowing that it's Yoongi due to his drastic weight and hair loss. Not saying anything Yoongi just sped away to go find his dad. 

Later that day Jungkook and his family just so happen to go to the same restaurant that Yoongi and his father was at. They greet Yoongi's dad, thinking that it is only him but little do they know Yoongi is only refilling his cup. Once Yoongi comes back he sees Jungkook. "Dad, can I go eat in the car?" Yoongi asked. "How long are you going to hide from him Yoongi, he has the right to know why you won't talk to him." Dad said making Yoongi look down, feeling ashamed. "I know Dad, I'm just so scared that he is gonna look at me as a freak." Yoongi said. "That is your best friend why would he think that of you?" Dad asked not getting a reply. "I just...I..." Yoongi tried to talk but his chest felt like fire as his eyes started to roll to the back of his head, having a seizure. 

Once at the hospital, Yoongi is put on bed rest and seizure medication. "We've never seen anything like this." The doctor stated as he looked at a scan of Yoongi's brain, analyzing that his tumor has grown. "Is he going to live?" Dad asked as the doctor took off his glasses. "We don't know, we could do a marrow transplant to see if that makes him better." The doctor said. "What would that do for him?" Dad asked. "A bone marrow transplant involves taking cells that are normally found in the bone marrow, filtering those cells, and giving them back either to the donor." The doctor explained. "Okay, do I have to sign to give permission?" Dad asked. "Yes, just so we have proof." The doctor said. Once dad signs the forms they schedule Yoongi's surgery for the next day.
