Seri Lee's pov
"Fuck it." I groan loudly and rest my head on the car seat. I'm pretty sure the driver just heard me cursing my heart out. Normally, I would have been embarrassed to death but tonight, I just do not care. A lot of things have happened in the past couple of hours and being judged by a middle aged driver is the least of my concerns right now.
I glance over at my phone and contemplate whether I should switch it off or put it on silent. If I do the former, my parents will start assuming that I got kidnapped or I died or something; and if I do the latter, they'll know I'm ignoring them.
"Fuck it." I curse under my breath again and call up my best friend. I hope she picks up.
After the 5th ring, I hear a familiar voice on the other end, "Hello?"
"Kim Jiwon," I sigh out loudly, "What are you doing?"
She groans a little too, "Dude, look at the time. Why are you calling me?"
I look at my watch as the hour hand glides past 2 in an instant, "It's only 2 a.m." I speak, more to myself.
"Exactly," she sounds annoyed, "why are you calling me at this time?"
"Do you wanna grab a beer with me?"
"Seri, we have class tomorrow. Did you forget?"
I rub my temples, "Of course I remember."
"Why are you out so late on a school night?"
"Just-" before I say anything further, she interrupts me quickly.
"Do your parents know that you're out?"
Seriously? Why does everyone in this world assume that poor Seri Lee can't do shit without her parents? I have been managing myself throughout my life while my parents were focused on their precious sons. At least I should-
My thoughts get interrupted as I hear Jiwon groaning in annoyance, "Go back before your mom starts banging at my door."
"Go back to sleep, Jiwon. I'll call you in the morning."
"You," I can hear her shifting in her bed, "you're not doing anything bad, right?"
"Uhuh, I just injected myself with a shot of cocaine. You want some?"
The driver immediately perks up his head and looks at me from the rear view mirror.
"I'm hanging up," she yawns, "don't do anything stupid and call me once you reach home."
And with that, my best friend hangs up. Usually, Jiwon would coax me into telling her what happened but she could probably sense that I didn't want to talk about it today, I mean, tonight.
I look out at the window and notice all the clubs lined up on the streets. I have no idea where I'm going.
Almost as if my body had a will of its own, I jump up from my seat and ask the driver the drop me there.
After paying the fare, I climb out of the car and look around to see young and old people alike, huddling together in this cold weather, walking and hurrying towards the clubs. I have nothing against clubbing or partying or anything like that, but this 'activity' is something I have never taken a part in. I never really considered having fun an option, considering how hectic my life already is. But tonight, it's different. I'm going to make choices that I have never made and if that includes going clubbing all by myself in the middle of the night, then be it.
As I step closer to one of the clubs, I notice a woman my age touching up her makeup. Damn, I should have worn some makeup too. I frantically fish through stuff inside my bag and finally find my red lipstick. This will have to do for now, I guess.
