i look up from the ground to see your sad and teary eyes, you look away from me, and i see there's something you're trying to hide.

rosa looked at daniel, furrowing her eyebrows. they looked at each other, daniel immediately snapping his head away from her. but not before she noticed the tears forming in his eyes.

and i reach for your hand, but it's cold, you pull away again. and i wonder what's on your mind.

rosa sighed, reaching out to place her hand on daniel's, noticing how unusually cold it was right before he snatched his hand away, sniffling.

and then you said to me you made a dumb mistake. you start to tremble and your voice begins to shake.

daniel sniffled, glancing up at rosa before looking back to the floor and whispering, "i-i made a dumb mistake, rosa." his body slowly beginning to tremble at the end of the sentence, his voice shaking.

you say the cigarettes on the counter weren't your friend's, they were my mate's. and i feel the color draining from my face.

he sniffled again, playing with his shirt in a nervous state, "t-the cigarettes from yesterday?" he whispered before adding, "d-do you remember those?"

rosa kept her eyebrows furrowed, wondering what in the hell these cigarettes had to do with why her petal was so upset, "of course, petal, why?"

"t-they weren't my friend's." daniel whispered, biting his lip harshly, "they were your mate's."

and just as he said that, rosa felt her heart drop into her stomach, staring at the boy she trusted so much. and she felt the warmth in her face disappear, saying nothing.

and my friend said, "i know you love him, but it's over, mate. it doesn't matter, put the phone away. it's never easy to walk away, let him go. it'll be alright."

rosa kept downing the shots she had ordered, her friend staring at her with a worried expression. "rosa, chill on the shots." ashley sighed, moving the rest away from the girl.

rosa sighed, rubbing her forehead and staring out the window next to her seat, grabbing her phone.

"nono-"

rosa ignored ashley again, unlocking it quickly.

"i know you love him, but it's over, mate." ashley sighed, putting a hand on rosa's wrist. "it doesn't matter," she paused, putting her hand on rosa's phone, "put the phone away."

rosa sighed, putting her phone back in her pocket and putting her head down.

"it's never easy to walk away," ashley whispered, rubbing rosa's back, "let him go. it'll be alright."

so i still look back at the messages you sent, and i know it wasn't right, but it was fucking with my head. and everything deleted like the past, yeah, it was gone.

rosa bit her lip as she stared down at her phone, phoenix sighing softly. "i just- i don't fucking understand." rosa murmured, "how the hell does he send this two days before," she paused, showing rosa the message daniel had sent. "and then cheat on me?"

phoenix bit her lip, shrugging softly, "i-i don't know.."

rosa shook her head, deleting the message, and the ones prior, before deleting her replies.

and when i touched your face i could tell you were moving on.

daniel had come back with a cut on his face. rosa had let him stay at her house after the incident because, truthfully, she still loved him. she just wasn't ready to see him leave yet, and he wasn't ready to admit that he had cheated on her to his brothers.

so, when he came home with a cut on his face, rosa helped him clean it up. only for her heart to be shattered farther every time she touched his face.

his eyes didn't light up when she got near him like they used to, and the little smile he always had when she touched him had gone missing. and that's when it occurred to her that he truly had begun to move on.

but it's not the fact that you kissed him yesterday, it's the feeling of betrayal that i just can't seem to shake.

rosa stared at daniel as he walked into the guest bedroom, thinking over what he had told her earlier.

"siri," she murmured, "call ashley."

"hey, lovely." ashley smiled, rosa frowning. "what happened?"

"daniel cheated on me." rosa mumbled, staring at the floor.

"oh, baby-"

"and i don't even think it's the fact that he kissed my best friend that bothers me." rosa whispered, earning an arched eyebrow from ashley, "i think it's just the fact that he betrayed my trust..he knew how hesitant i was to love him. to trust him. and he went and threw it in my face.."

and everything i know tells me that i should just walk away, but i just wanna stay.

rosa stared at the ceiling, her and daniel having decided to watch Avengers: Infinity War together because they had promised they would still be friends.

and as she looked at him, the boy having fallen asleep half-way through the movie, she realized she shouldn't be friends with him. because if she was, she would never get over him.

but she didn't want to stop being friends with him, she didn't even want to stop dating him. she just wanted everything to stay the way they were, but it would never be that way. not anymore.

but nothing heals the past like time, and they can't steal the love you were born to find.

daniel had moved out six months ago, the ghosts of him still appearing in rosa's mind, but not as much as she laughed with brandon.

"brandon! brandon, stop tickling me!" she laughed, holding her hands up to brandon's chest, smiling brighter than she ever had.

"i know you love him, but it's over, mate. it doesn't matter, put the phone away. it's never easy to walk away, let him go. it'll be okay. it's gonna hurt for a bit of time, so bottoms up, let's forget tonight. you'll find another, and you'll be just fine. let him go."

it was the night after daniel moved out, tears still staining rosa's cheeks as ashley sighed. "i know you love him," she repeated as rosa downed another shot. "but it's over, mate." she groaned this time when rosa brought out her phone, downing another shot as she did so. "it doesn't matter! put the phone away." ashley told the girl, snatching her phone.

rosa stared at her, downing another shot without a word.

"it's never easy to walk away, let him go." ashley whispered, taking the shot glass from her friend. "it'll be okay."

rosa rolled her eyes, shaking her head.

"it's gonna hurt for a bit of time," ashley nodded, handing rosa one of the drinks the bartender had just brought over. "so bottoms up, let's forget tonight."

rosa smiled slightly, counting down from 3 before ashley and her both downed the drinks.

"you'll find another, and you'll be just fine." ashley hummed, smiling as rosa clapped at the song the DJ had just started to play. "let him go." she whispered, pulling rosa out so they could dance.
