We get out of the drive way, right off the bat I see this, small apartment building, only about 24 "homes" which are stacked on top of each other, all centered around a pool. He get out the car, he opens the car door for me and gives me his jacket, sweet. We start to walk to the gates, he puts in this card, it reads it, makes a ding noise and lets us in. We climbed up the stairs (which were super scary because the stairs only had the top part and not the lower part. (I'm not very good at explaining things) We wall to the second one to the last door and open it. There was an apartment that was pretty empty. Just a couch and a tv, with a small dinning table. His roommate he was talking about in the hospital lot was right there. They both look like college kids, like in the movies Mason would show me.
"Just follow me into my room," he said while holding my hand. I nodded and followed him. What was I supposed to say? No? I wouldn't. I'm so used to saying yes, I've forgotten. We sat on his bed.
" Let's set some rules," he said, " Since the hospital can't ship you out to rehab, since it's on fire, Ive volunteered to help you. Just know I'm probably not doing this for free. I don't want to lie to you like that. Okay, now time for the real rules. Don't talk to Jason, he's an idiot. Urm, basically my room will be your room. I'll just sleep on the couch or you can. Anything you want is fine. Lastly, you need anything please just call me or tell me! Do you have a phone?" I shock my head.
"Oh," he said, " Do you have any questions?"
"Yes," I muddled, "Can you sleep with me." His eyebrow shot up.
" it's a weird request but, this is such a weird situation and I haven't every not sleepin with someone since 9th grade."
"How old are you?"
"19"
"Oh okay, you look a lot younger. I'm 21." I nodded. He gave me some clothes to wear for the night. His sweater pants and a sweater. They both smell amazing.
"Wait," I say.
" In the morning, can you change me," I said so softly you would think I was whispering.
"Like what? Dying your hair?" I nodded.
" Fine, only because I don't want him to find you." He looked over at me and I nodded.
" But, let's go to sleep. You sleep on my bed."
" Are you sure? Just sleep on your own bed and I'll sleep on the couch."
He came up and whispered, " I don't trust my roommate, he like small little anime boys and you're very small and cartoon like." I nodded my head. I don't want to get hurt, I'm kinda happy he said he didn't want to sleep his bed. I don't like sleeping on couches.
" Also, before you go to rehab center, do you want to officially change your name?" I nodded.
" Jocelyn, huh? What a strange name."
" You're name is Angus for gods sake."
" Okay Mr 5'1"
" I'm 5'2 and you're name after a hot dog brand."
"Huh," he laughed. I lightly smiled.
"Good night," he smiled. I nodded and locked the door.
I got naked and dressed into my new clothes. His clothes were new. You can tell they haven't been washed in a while though. It's smelled just like the apartment. The sweater had a collage on it, New York University School of Medicine. I purple hoodie with a snake on a torch. He must be very smart to get into a collage like this. Half time job huh, nurse. It's around 9am now. I have his sweater and sweatpants (which both are way too large for me) and go under his blanket. I cant tell you what I smelled. You know when some one has such a smell, not in a bad way (I think he smells pretty good). I've never smelled anything else but Mason and the streets of New York. I started to fall asleep but, my mind was awake. That whole morning after that I never thought about Mason. So much was happening I forgot who started it. Who filled the pool, who made me swim in it. Instead I thought about Angus, his pedo/anime lover roommate, and how lose these clothes were. I closed my eyes, a deep dark nothingness. Sore from the beginning, pure til the end. His bed was soft, I sunk right into it. I'm going to cry, I'm not going to cry. I open my eyes to feel warm tears down my face. I half asleep and half awake. Thinking of what I've did. Hoping that the last I saw of Mason was at the store, smiling and telling me goodbye for the last time. But, what I got was him watching me leave, in tears, shaking with fear. Finding my phone and it leading to the hospital. The red and blue light flashing on his face, the beautiful face I knew, ever little pore and wrinkle. Holding on to Angus hand. I could tell the shock in his face, he probably thought I went crazy and ran away. Actually, in his eyes, that's what i did. The blue and red flashing on everyone's face while the firemen and police were helping us out. Red for the harsh reality that I've left, blue for the feeling of never having me again.
