Houston's large hands caressed my face, and my hands covered his. it was a deep kiss. lasting for about five seconds, followed by a little peck by him to finish it off. i opened my eyes and he did as well. he let go of my face and walked away. right down the hall, taking a left to leave the building. i was left standing there in shock. did i really just do that? i made the move. wait he kissed back. he's a great kisser. was i? oh my god. to many thoughts and not a big enough brain to define them all. i stumbled into my room, shut the door and locked it. i took off my shoes and laid down on my white bed. i snuggled up to the furry pillows and fell asleep.
--------
the next morning i woke up feeling well rested. i sit up in bed and look at myself in the mirror on the walk across from my bed. i laugh at myself, for my hair made me look like a troll doll. i stand up and search my bed for my phone. i find it and check the time. 11:03 am. shit! it's Wednesday, that means school. shit. i sprint to my bathroom and take the quickest shower possible, then immediately throwing on my uniform and brown boots with knitted socks. i apply quick mascara, bronzer, blush, and brow gel. classic cherry lip smacker and my favorite perfume. i grab my school bag from the bench and run out the door.
i continue running down the side walks to the second education hall. my class is the first door in so i quickly open the door. but then i made a fool out of myself.
"Caroline Grey. this not an action movie. this is class. we all watched you sprint your way down the sidewalks." my professor, Mrs. Hennington. she was laughing along with the rest of the class.

"my apologies ma'am." i say, trying my best to hold back my laughter. i trudge up the stairs and take a seat.

"he can't stop talking about you." i look to my left and realize it was Carter sitting next to me. then i also realize what he said.
"Houston?" i ask.

"yup." he smiles.

then i remember. the kiss. oh wow.
"huh i myself cannot either. i learned that he is dancing with the stars worthy." i smile.
i felt heat rise into my cheeks. Carter examined my face, noticing the heavy blush in my face.
"yeah he said you went for the kiss first and he went second." Carter smirks. i stare at him with wide eyes then throw my hands at my face.

the first class of my very late day ended, so i walked to the lunch hall.
i only took an orange to my seat and sat down. Sterling and Rhett soon joined me.
"hey kiddo." Sterling put his hand on my head.
"we're the same age." i look up at him.
"whatever." he sits down with a tray full of food. Rhett too.

"how do you guys eat so much and still manage to stay fit for football (soccer)?" my mouth drops at the sight of all of the junk on their trays.
"magic!" says Rhett.
"yup. abbra cadabra Sterling cazam!"

i feel my phone buzz from my jacket pocket so i take it out and read the notification.

Houston: emergency. meet me outside please.

i stuff my phone back into my pocket and hurry outside.
i see Houston standing near a tree, looking quite a bit stressed.

"Houston?" i say. he quickly turns around and his clenched jaw relaxes.

"Caroline. someone heard the talk with our parents during the ball." he says.

"what?" i step closer to him, for the wind was making his voice inaudible.

"someone knows about our engagement and they are spreading it around real quickly." he explains.

"you're joking." i cross my arms and give him one of the side eyes.

"Caroline i'm dead serious." Houston looks at me with no expression on his face. not even one of those smirks.
"you're not kidding. shit." i slouch against the tree. my head begins to overflow with what ifs. i look up at Houston. he's got a worried type face along with his recognizable puppy dog eyes. "any suspects?" i ask him.

"Charity Wallace." he says quite blandly. i looked at him confused, for i had not known who Charity Wallace happened to be.
"Charity Wallace. we dated for three years until she slept with my fucking cousin. she's convinced shitty sex is not cheating, and she still happens to be in love with me. a scary sort of love." Houston breathes out, seemingly relieved he was able to get those words out.

"wow. she sounds like a fraction of hell." i say. Houston laughs a cute laugh and finally smiles again.

"Charity's assistant-type friend spoke to me about this." i nod my head and stand up from my slouch against the tree.

"well this sounds like a blast, but i'm going to have to finish eating inside. i'll be going now." but Houston grabs me by the arm.
"Caroline date me." three simple words was all it took for my heart to explode from my chest.

"excuse me?" i say.

"not actually. well sort of. the engagement word is spreading quickly and we can't act like we don't know each other. hell we'll have matching golden rings on our fingers, they'll notice something is up if we continue acting as acquaintances." the words felt as if the slapped me in the face. shit he's right.

"fake date me Caroline?" Houston holds his hand out. i glance at his hand, then his eyes. his a little extra shimmer to them today. the silver is shining.
i grab his hand and shake it.
"deal but i'm texting you a list of rules later."

"leave kissing out of it." Houston winks at me and twirls around, walking away. i roll my eyes and walk back into the cafeteria.
