Will And The Shooting Star Fairies
Hi I'm Will, and I'm sure you're wondering about the title of this story. I wish I could tell you this story contains an epic adventure. Well it doesn't. It is kind of a funny one though, so enjoy. It all started on a Friday.
We were eating dinner, pot roast, when it started. Dad had begun his famous you need a job Will, speech. "I just don't understand why you can't find a job?, he asked "." Mary did." Mary is my younger sister. She is sixteen and basically the so called responsible one.
"I'm sorry ,I answered, I don't know. Maybe we just have to face the fact that I'm not good at anything."
"You're good at screwing stuff up," Mary mumbled.
Mom gave a stern look and reply to her. "Enough ,Mary. Eat your dinner this is between, Will, your father and I."
Mom now faced me and started to talk as she cut meat on her plate. "You can't get a job because you are not willing to work. You won't put the time and effort in to really look for one. I understand you don't want to be wiping tables or washing dishes for the rest of your life, but my God Will, you won't even try to bring up your grades so maybe one day you won't have to. You have to at least try. There are no guarantees in life ,you just have to try, and be prepared for things"
I just looked down and nodded. Everyone went back to eating, and no one said anything more . I finished my entire plate, big plate, guess when you realize things in life you become very hungry. I washed my plate and went up to my room. My room was my sacred space, and even though everyone hounded me about getting a job, I was still lucky enough to have a family that respected privacy.
My room consisted of a small be, closet bookshelf, posters of rock bands and other cool shit. You know the normal stuff. I also have those glow in the dark space scene stickers you put on your ceiling. Had them up there since I was twelve and I have no intention of taking them down.
Every night before I went to bed, I would look out my window at the stars. I would stare for what seemed like hours hoping there would be one for me to wish on, then on that Friday night it happened. I was about to go to bed when I saw it ,a shooting star. I wish I had help I said. Help not to be a loser with everything. My wish was part sarcastic, and part sincere. Deep down though it was more sincere. I just stared a bit longer as it went further into the horizon disappearing completely. I closed my eyes and sighed. I then turned around and went to bed. I slept pretty well that night. Probably because it would be the last normal night.
Six a.m. arrived too soon in my opinion. I was no longer in school, but out of habit still woke up before seven. I loved the quiet time of the early morning, even though I did not much enjoy getting out of bed. I let out a yawn, which turned to a faint scream as I opened my eyes. "Oh crap I said in a whiney voice. I must be drunk, but I don't remember drinking last night. At least not anything hard enough to cause this.
"I'm being attacked by tiny people" I cried. On my stomach was a little man with wings, dressed in a suite. "What the hell are you"? I asked. "Are you asking what I am physically or my job? I can answer both either way. I am a life coach fairy". There was only one thing I could say. "Huh"?
The fairy began to speak again. "My name is Bill. I'm here to help you change your life. It's what you wished for on that star last night. There are more coming to help me assist you. Oh, here comes April now." Just then another fairy came and landed on my windowsill.
