Sometimes the people that you know, you might not know them at all. You see, there are times that for people to truly grow they must be broken like an eagle that plucked its old talons and beak in order to become strong once again. I was one of those and I can't say that I had it worse than others, but one thing that I can be sure of is that life didn't just throw lemons at me, it threw the entire damn tree.

"David?! David, where are you?!" My Mother called to me with my birth name in a panic as she hurriedly prepared some bags of clothes while a handgun laid next to her.

"I'm right here momma, where are we going now?" I asked innocently, thinking we were going to visit someone else.

For sixteen years, I have wondered why we would move away all the sudden like that. It wasn't until recently that I truly found out what the reasons were for our sudden surprise moves outs. I was 'defective' for my creator's ambitions and his goons were closely on our tail making sure the problem was dealt with.

"Good, good, where are your sisters?" My mom asked as we could see a car beginning to drive towards the house from a barely visible road that was obscured due to vegetation. I thought that was our ride just like many times before, so I innocently reached my hand towards the door knob.

"David!" My mom exclaimed as she grabbed a hold of my hand firmly.

"Don't do that, we're going to go another way okay baby?" Mom said with fear in her eyes as she sweated profusely from the anxiety before I nodded, fetching my sister Esther and Diana, the latter who could barely talk let alone run.

"Listen baby, I have to talk to some people first okay? I'll meet you on the other side of --" she said before being abruptly interrupted by the sound of someone trying to break in through the front door followed by a familiar voice.

"Gabriela come out, I know you're in there! I only want the test subjects!" the person outside commanded, it was my father. At least that would be the literal definition of it at the time.

"GO TO HELL ENRIQUE!!!" my mom yelled out at him before reaching for her pistol.

"You stay away from them or I will kill you this time!"

"They are just test subjects my dear, they're aren't even close to human. I don't understand this obsession of yours with such animals!" Enrique said with a scoff as if it was a mere inconvenience.

"We both know that's bullshit! All you want is for everyone to stroke that little ego of yours!" Enrique said with a forced laugh in an attempt to hide his rage.

"You're quite the comedian dear, now hand them over." he demanded with a sudden change in tone.

"You're going to have to get through me." my mother said with a fury that only Diana could match.

"Pity, you were always the perfect carrier for those monsters. No matter, I will get what I want one way or the other, dear..." he said coldly before backing away from the door.

This gave my mother enough time to remove some crates and send us down a secret escape hatch that led us to an abandoned mine shaft. Normally I wouldn't give it a second thought, but that is when I realized that it might be the last time I will ever see my mom.

"M-mom? Y-you're coming with us right?" I asked with a final hope that she would say yes, but the way that she looked at me as she placed us on the ladder said it all.

"Please don't let us go down there alone mom!" I exclaimed out of panic.

"I'll be down there, I just have to talk to your father real quick!" she said as her arms shook from the fear, yet she tried her best to hide it from us.
