-Ivy, sweetie, there was a letter on our front door and it says that it's for you.
I lift my eyes in a curious gaze. The only ones that sometimes send me letters are my grandparents.
-Who is it from?
My mom entered our small living room with a unique, vintage-like letter. She gave it a suspicious glare, then handed it to me. I opened it and stared at it for a few seconds. My mom was looking at me, curiosity in her light brown eyes, the same shade as mine.
-Well? What is it about?
-I..I don't really understand. It's an invitation to join a new school, I think.
-What!?
My mom took the letter away from me and read it frantically.
-Hogwarts school of whichcraft and wizardy!?
-What's going on there?
My dad entered the room and examined me and my mom with his hazel gaze.
-Look!
My mom gave him the letter and he started reading it.
-This proves what I've been saying! dad exclaimed, looking mom in the eye. She really is magical.
-Don't be silly!
-Then how do you explain the incident?
I shrugged. I knew what the incident was. I was at school about two months ago. A boy in my class tried to steal my notebook, the one where I write poetry. I told him to give it back, but he just laughed and held it high, so I couldn't reach it. That's when I became angry. I started jumping and reaching my hand, telling him to give it back. A lot of people were starting to circle around us, laughing. And then it happened. I didn't want to hurt him, I swear. I reached my hand one more time, but this time I looked into his eyes. When our eyes met, the boy just flew to the other side of the room, hitting the wall. Without me even touching him. Just like that. The kids around me backed off, gasping and screaming, but I was more scared of myself then the others were of me. The boy hit his head and fainted. I was expelled that day.
My parents were still talking, ignoring the fact that I was in the same room.
-I don't know what happened! But I'm not sending our kid to some "magic school" that I've never heard of just because of that!
-Maybe it will help her! Maybe they know how to teach her to control those things!
-But what if they can't?
-And what are we going to do? She's been crying every day since she got expelled! She's just as confused as we are! This is our only chance!
My mom looked at me. I was watching the whole scene with wide eyes, hidden in the back of the room, holding back tears. She ran at me and hugged me tight.
-Do you want to go?
She put her hands on my shoulder and looked me in the eye.
-I..I don't know.
She sighted and started to walk away. I stared at my hands for a few seconds.
-Will it help me? Will they learn me to control these things?
My dad walked to me, took my hand in his and smiled.
-We're not sure, but they might.
I took a deep breath, closing my eyes.
-Then fine, I'll do it. I'll go.
