Equality is the state of being equal, especially in status, rights, or opportunities.
Often, when equality is discussed many would think of feminism.
Feminism is described as the advocacy of women's rights to be equal to that of males.
Nowadays the lines between gender have been blurred. Where people can identify themselves as either of the binary genders (male or female), non-binary (no gender at all) or gender fluid regardless of their biological sex.
So discussing feminism might be a tricky topic if you were to consider what people identify themselves as. (For this topic I'll stick to binary genders only, I apologize for leaving people out) But to me, gender isn't or should not be a big part of advocating anyone's right to begin with. (I am a cisgendered female by the way. Which probably won't mean much since women can be sexist to their own gender too.)
Not everyone knows their actual human rights but often exercise the right to preach it. There are 30 human rights according to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Do you know any of them, if not all?I find that people waste their time discussing the inequality of man's rights vs women's rights. Where rights or laws that apply to either party are completely different at times. Laws in which about rape cases involving male victims aren't labeled as "rape". (Because the legal system don't think that a female can actually or technically rape a man.)
Where stereotypes can come into play. In such case where certain expectations are placed on either gender. For instance, "Men have to open the doors." , "The guy has to pay for the meal.", "Women have to be mild mannered and girly."
Or "They have to look a certain way."Whereby, women want equal rights to that of the males but at times hold males accountable for chivalrous acts that they deem should be performed by them to women.
My point is, people preach about equal pay and sometimes complain about the monetary value of female products vs male products.
But it makes no sense sometimes, as feminists often argue that women should be paid the same as men despite having done a significantly poorer job. That does not mean that I endorse that women should be paid lesser than men, it just means that sometimes people argue irrationally and pin that issue to "inequality between men and women". (Toxic femininity)
I firmly believe that when two people regardless of gender hold the same position and carry out the same tasks they should be paid equally.
However, I don't necessarily see the point in comparing and blowing the rights between male and female out of proportion.
I feel like society as a whole, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender, social status or whatever else.. should all be treated equally.
Which leads me to my main point and one of my firm beliefs.
Egalitarianism the doctrine that all people are equal and deserve equal rights and opportunities.
And you might be thinking.. don't egalitarianism and feminism mean the same thing?
No, they don't. Whilst feminism may focus on having equal rights to that of men.
Egalitarianism means providing EVERYONE, with equal opportunities and rights.
And to not just provide everyone with equal rights and opportunities but to improve on the flawed system we have now that disadvantages not only women but men too.
And to abandon stereotypes about how a certain gender should act or go about their lives through their career choice or field of study.
I find that once we allow ourselves to be segregated through the labels of male or female we often lose the meaning of what it means to just be human. In the end that is what we are, and can't we as humankind be wholly responsible for our mindset and everyone's rights?
To strive together.. as one? To not just settle for having the same rights as men, but to overall improve everyone's rights.
"If you force the concept of segregation, there will be segregation."
AN: Heyo, sorry for not updating for a while. Or in a consistent schedule I guess. I want to write whenever I feel like writing so that I can provide people with the best quality and summation of how I feel about whatever topics I discuss.
Do you agree with me about how I discussed this topic?
Would you like me to discuss further about somethings? (For example, in the topic of "Respect" someone asked if what I described applies to animals too. And if that kind of respect should only be limited to humans.)
