It was raining.

That was the first thing I noticed through the glass of my room window as I shifted in my bed. I wanted to sleep today, especially today when I could_ since it was Sunday, but the small, tiny thumps against the window with the fresh smell of the world outside  along with the soft hum of the morning rain got the better of me. I jumped up in my bed, slipping my slippers on as I walked up to the window. For a moment I just stared at it, watching the tiny droplets chase one another, smiling, as I carefully opened the window. I gasped sharply as the first few drops of the cold water hit my face and I backed up a bit, laughing. I stepped in again, the droplets hugging my face again, cold. I shut the window then, and ran downstairs, laughing excitedly as I opened the entrance door.

I stood there breathing in the smell of the wet soil as I placed my right foot outside and then the left and then I was flying! The rain pelted in heavy downpours as I closed my eyes, lifting my face up to the skies, shutting my eyes tight, whirling in circles as the tiny particles hit my skin, drenching my clothes wet. I whirled and I span, as the rain water continued to explore me; the world outside. I ran my fingers across my face and into my hairs, bouncing them about as I took off my slippers and jumped into the tiny puddles, enjoying the sound that they created.

I turned around, my smile wide, my eyes roaming around the lush scenery the rain created. It was only then that I noticed a cute little kitten hiding beneath a small shed, shivering, probably cold. I walked slowly at first, not wanting to scare the tiny creature only until I noticed those long labored sighs and those drooping pair of eyes that I walked faster till I was running. Suddenly, as if someone had charged it with a battery, the kitten jerked to life. I stopped running, surprised. Looking here and there, as if it sensed danger, her eyes landed on me, so innocent. I smiled stupidly her, cringing inside beneath her deadly stare. I stayed where I was as her eyes narrowed on me accusingly. She backed a step and I took one slowly forward, cautious. She took another back as I took one forward. I smiled this time, enjoying the game, the rain still tingling my back. And then she turned around and ran, her feet producing tiny splashes in the rain water and I ran after her, laughing, the droplets hitting my face like tiny broken shards of glass. The kitten turned down a bend and I slowed down as I neared the corner. Stopping, I ran my eyes across the street, smiling as I saw the kitten nearing the edge on the other road.

“You aren’t going to get away from me, kitty” I sang, as I ran off after it.

I saw her turning another bend across the street. Sighing I ran to the other side of the road to the bend. I slowly stooped at the end as my eyes spotted a wagging tail slip just under the fence of the garden of a huge house. I bit my lips, thinking hard of the ways to get inside the garden without attracting the attention of the owner. I started walking then, determined to befriend the kitten at all costs; what all could the owner do, Get me out? At least I wouldn’t be sorry later for not trying!

Searching for the entrance of the fence, I slowly opened it, swearing under my breath when it creaked. I closed my eyes as I, very slowly and carefully tried opening it again. This time I survived. Pleased more than anything I entered the garden and stood inside, contemplating my next move. With my hands on my hips I looked across the garden, biting my lower lip, wondering what to do next.

The kitty wasn’t where I had last seen her, she had slipped somewhere else. I was about to leave, disappointed that I had probably lost her when suddenly I heard some shuffling from a bush. My lips curved up in a smile as I stood there, suddenly feeling victorious. The rain had slowed down to a light drizzle. I slowly tiptoed my way to the bush and stopped when I was close enough. Bending down, I peeked behind the bush and giggled when I saw her hiding. Slowly standing up I held my breath, afraid to make any mistake this time around as I plunged in after her, taking a hold at her.

“GOT CHA!” I exclaimed excitedly, lifting the kitten and jumping her along with me, cuddling her in my arms. I ran my hands in her soft white furs, closing my eyes and enjoying the sheer smoothness of the hairs against my fingers. I cradled her against my chest, smiling, rocking her softly about as her eyes started drooping close.

“You are the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.” I whispered softly in her ear, knowing very well that she couldn’t possibly understand what I was saying. She hugged in close to me in response.

“Excuse me?”

I gasped, reacting sharply to the voice which broke the silence; a car’s horn in a desert, a scream in a school library, a glass broken. I didn’t really have to grasp what had just happened when the kitten jumped off my lap and back to the ground, running away.

“What the...” I ran after her, but a little too late. She had already disappeared around the corner. With anger trickling in my veins, I whirled around to face the person whose fault it was in the first place.

I stepped back in a momentary shock as my eyes encountered a pair of sea green eyes, so soft I had to think twice to reorganize my thoughts. The guy standing in front of me was about six feet tall_ the only thing I noticed apart from those big beautiful piercing eyes. He seemed to be struggling with something too as his expressions softened for just a tiny bit before he composed himself, making me wonder if I had just imagined something there.
