Eggs in the nest

Paz sat in the chair, swinging her feet back and forth as she waited for the doctor; Shire was close to her cell so she could call Barney with results. The man of borderline fifty and looked everyday of it walked in with papers under his arm. He sat down in the plush Leather chair, spreading out the sheets before them.

"Well, Mrs. Jensen, you are positive for hcG and it is double the normal amount. Which judging by your blood work and urine test you are pregnant, I can't say for sure with twins or not. You are only seven weeks along. I have to say proceed with caution because you have high blood pressure. Come in next month and we will do an ultrasound. "

"Thank you" she ended the conversation and left.

Shire called Barney who picked up instantly. You could hear a voice in the background, just as he started to talk Paz's phone started to ring.

"She is pregnant. "

"Damn... I won't have her in my house, Shire. I have three kids and you to protect. Gunnar is unstable. He wouldn't hurt her. "

"She is pregnant!"

Barney sighed. He growled and mumbled something to himself.

"I got another job. Short and simple. Gunnar isn't going; the answer is no. Please understand."

Shire understood his point of view. She looked at the woman in front of her who was smiling.

"Let me get her back so she can get home."

"Love ya.." he hung up.

Meanwhile, Paz answered the phone to hear his voice.

"Where ya at?"

"Doctors. I had to find out."

"Yea and?"

Paz bit her lip and was debating on if she should lie or not.

"Positive. " Her voice was weak

"Great! Now, we can finally move up from here. I promise I gonna kick it. "

Paz smiled at his revolution.

"I have to take care of something first. "

"Okay, I trust you. I love you. I will be home soon."

The phone line went dead and both women entered the car. One happy and excited while the other fearing for her friend's and unborn child. Most of the ride was silent, but Paz broke the silence with a statement that gave Shire some hope.

"I want a girl with blonde hair and green eyes. It will give Gunnar so much joy to have a baby girl. "

"You think?"

"I know. He isn't a monster. I believe in my husband; he will be a great father like he has provider and lover to me."

Shire didn't argue due to they were parked in her driveway. Paz hugged her friend and ran to her vehicle as she did when she was engaged. Barney popped his head out and looks unhappy; Shire greeted her Italian stud.

"She is happy. I not going to shoot her down, and she still is my best friend. You may have lost faith, but I have not! Gunnar is a junkie yes. Paz is not. You out of all people shouldn't judge. I love you and I respect your word. For once, you will see my way. That girl needs support. I am going to give it to her; I didn't have a woman to help me through our three children. I was alone a lot of the time becuase Tool was still apart of the team or busy. Paz won't be put on the back burner like I was. "

Barney was taken back by her rant; she was right. He rubbed his face. The old Shire has never left her soul. She just harbored it until it was needed. The man loved her drive and loyalty to her friends and his team.

"I agree. Gunnar still is my friend. I can't risk the others life. I have to protect them"

Shire kissed his lips. They pulled apart, staring at each other like they did the first time they kissed.

"You are doing a fantastic job. Just have faith in my choices like one yours"

"Forever and always.." Barney whispers into her ear.
