"Evelyn"

By the time I managed to find out where was Alycia the bell had already rung. Students were flooding the corridors and it was getting harder and harder to get through.

I saw the familiar blonde by the lockers, accompanied by other students, her friends probably. I decided to just walk up to the group and call Alycia out.

"Excuse me.. Hey!" I raised my voice since it was very loud in the corridor.

"Alycia, can I talk to you for a second?" I asked trying to sound intimidating

Immediately all of the people surrounding her walked away as if they could sense trouble.

"Umm, is there something wrong Ms.Carlsson? I... " She sounded really confused but I cut her off.

"Do you recognize this?" I asked showing her the note I knew she wrote.

Her lips twitched slightly in surprise but she immediately regained control of her expression. She was good at this. Someone else she could probably fool, but not me.

"I have never seen this before, Ms.Carlsson." Lies, I thought.

"Okay, let's cut it to the chase. I know it's yours, you gave it to the girl that was sitting behind you in my class. The real question is what it means. Why does it mention the name Rodriguez and why is there blood in the girls' restroom?" Now I had her right where I wanted her. She struggled to process what I've just said. Again, her expression was hardly giving it away.

Then everything about her posture changed. She lifted her head a little and looked straight into my eyes. Hers were cold and relentless.

"Like I said, I have never seen this piece of paper before and know absolutely nothing about blood in a restroom. But I mean, it's a girls' restroom, you know, blood happens." She smiled an awful smile, one that most certainly did not reach her eyes. One that was telling me: you ain't got nothin' on me so piss off.

I was dumbfounded, couldn't utter a word. Never in a million years would I expect her to be so bold when confronting a teacher. She just looked at me with a bored expression, shrugged and walked away from me to join her friends that were waiting for her.

So, I suppose that settles it, I thought. Now I definitely wasn't going to get anything out of her. The only way to learn the truth was to ask the one in question, Victoria Rodriguez.

Not long after I had established I had to find Tori, I run into another obstacle. She was nowhere to be found. Vanished. Some students told me they have seen her walking out of school through the front door but they only caught a glimpse of her, they weren't sure.

As much as I wanted to look for her, I couldn't. After all, this was my first day and I still had two more classes to teach. I simply couldn't go tell Anthony I had a bad feeling about one of the students, not without some kind of a proof. What I could do, on the other hand, was ask him for her home address. It would be a little weird, yes, but I was willing to come up with a small, innocent lie.

Right after my last class ended I headed to the principal's office. I knocked twice and opened the door.

"Ah, Evelyn, you're done for today right?" Anthony's face lit up when he saw me.

"Yes, I am. It was a good day. But listen, I need a favor." Maybe a little too straight forward but it was for the greater good.

"Anything, what's up?"

"There's this student in my first period, Victoria Rodriguez. I was going to ask her to stay after class so that I could explain the assignment to her and give her some sources but kind of forgot and now she's gone home. Do you think you could give me her home address so I can at least give her those sources?" I asked timidly, afraid he'd see right through me.

"No problem at all. It's good to see a teacher who's passionate and cares about her students." He said with a wide smile already shuffling through some papers.

"Ah yes, Rodriguez, here it is." He wrote the address on a small piece of paper and handed it to me. "There you are."

"Thank you so much, Anthony. It's very important that she understands what her assignment is about." There I was, making sure my boss believes in the fake assignment. Hope it will be worth the lies, I thought.

"Of course, I'm not delaying you further then, see you tomorrow." He said and immediately went back to his work.

"See you tomorrow" And with that I was gone. I left the school, clutching yet another piece of paper in my hand.

The image of the blood from the restroom reappeared in my head and I picked up the pace.
