Chapter 24

Valerie’s P.O.V.

I walk into school the next morning, bag slung over my shoulder with a frown.

“Hart!” Luke calls out, catching up to me.

“Yeah?” I ask.

“What the hell was going on with you and Ashton yesterday?”

“I don’t know.” I answer, keeping my gaze focused on the ground.

“You okay?” He asks.

“My mom basically kicked Ashton out of the house yesterday and he hasn’t talked to me since.”

“Damn.” Luke says with a frown.

“Yeah. But I have first period with him so hopefully it won’t be awkward.”

“Valerie!” Michael yells, running towards me and engulfing me in a hug.

“What’s the hug for?” I ask with a quiet laugh.

“I saw you frowning from all the way down the hall.” He says with a smug grin.

“Oh my gosh.” I say, rolling my eyes. “Should I expect Calum any second?”

“Well that just killed the element of surprise.” Calum says with a smile from beside me. I jump slightly and smile.

“Well, where’s Ashton?”

“Haven’t seen him all morning.” Calum says.

“He wasn’t here yesterday, either.” Michael says.

“Yeah, he was at Valerie’s all day.” Luke says.

“What?” Michael and Calum ask at the same time.

“We’re sort of talking now, I guess?”

“Oh please, Valerie. We were doing a hell of a lot more than just talking.” Ashton says, wrapping his arm around my shoulder and pressing a kiss to my forehead.

“Hi.” I tell him quietly.

“Hey.” He tells me with a gentle smile.

“Did you two have sex or something?” Michael asks.

“Basically. I heard it over the phone.” Luke says, scrunching his nose up in disgust.

“Been there, man.” Michael says with a laugh.

“You’re next, Calum.” Ashton says with a grin.

“I’m blocking your number.” He says with a laugh.

The warning bell rings and they all leave to their classes, leaving Ashton and I alone. “Ashton, I’m really sorry about what my mom said last night-”

“Hey, don’t worry about it.” He says quietly. “I’m okay.”

“You didn’t do anything, right?”

He shakes his head and I nod. “I’m okay.”

“I’m really sorry, Ashton.” I say quietly.

“It’s okay.” He tells me. I open my mouth to say something, but the bell rings. “Let’s get to class.”

“I don’t want to go.” I whine.
