Edge to Oblivion

It was a sunny day on the beach outside as I stared into the oblivion... or what was left of it. The world as we knew it was no more. The unthinkable act that came upon us so long ago. How long ago was it now? 10 years? Maybe 20? I don't really know, time is not what it once was. Anyone can simply break the time barrier and change something. For all I know someone could've made this world go back 100 years or forward 100 years. Well, what does it matter? Life's meaning has also changed. No one cares for anyone only for their own selfish thoughts. You can be walking on the street the next thing you know is... nothing. Yup, you're dead. The law is nothing, no one cares about it, it's been overwritten so much till now it's just a bunch of words that no one pays head too. Well, most people. You do find that occasional person that wants life to go back to what it was like in the old ages. Well, that's a bit hard... considering that only half of the earth is left. The side that has more water than land. How unlucky could we get? Well, people used to think things like,

'oh, hey this isn't that bad! At least we got lots of water!'

They couldn't be more wrong. The water all fell off the side of the earth. The bright side is that you can now jump twice as high as you used to be able too. The downside? You usually fall flat on your head due to the earth being a semi-sphere. I sometimes ask,

'Why was I born into this cruel world?'

In books, the characters usually say stupid things like only the strong survive and the weak perish. That's a myth. It's the rich that survive and the poor that die. The rich have enough money to own mercenaries. The poor? They have nothing. They usually die from starvation or thirst. Remember how I said the earth isn't round? Well yeah, you can technically fall off the earth's edge, I mean you still get back. But on the other side, flat as a pancake. When you walk off the edge it throws you forward, and you fly high into the air. Then come back at crazy speed because the gravitational pull is much stronger on the other side. This beach I'm walking on would've been my place of death some time ago. At this time long ago, a young girl came to me. She asked me those questions that young girls are known for asking.

'Hey, mister! What are you doing?'

I can feel a small sad smile creeping on my face hearing those words again in my mind. I looked at her eyes and told her the world is a cruel place. You might be here too one day. She replied with those words that are untrue.

'No, it's not! Mamma still cooks good food! My name is Jenny how about you?'

I looked over the edge. I didn't want her to see me crying. I told her my name didn't matter as I would no longer be in this world. When I looked back at her, her eyes seemed to have changed slightly. The next thing she did was start crying. Between sobs, she asked,

'you're not going to do the same thing daddy did are you?'

I asked her what her dad did. What she told me shocked me and will never leave my mind that's why I'm back here today. What she said was,

'he went over. I never saw him again.'

I never knew that someone's own pitiful life could be remembered by someone and that people grieved for each other. Didn't parents teach their kids that the way to survive was to through your sympathy out the window? What this little girl said stays with me today. I will never be able to repay her.

'Would you like to come with me for dinner? My mummy cooks really good food!'

That day I didn't jump because of one act of kindness from this one insignificant girl. She saved a life for now. I'm writing this as my death note for people may read it and change the world. However, it's too late for me.
