"Here, Gramma." I said as I helped Gramma sit up and eat her porridge from the earthen pot.

"Thank you, love." She smiled, revealing her toothless gums. I gently touched her forehead and flinched.

"You're burning up! Let me call Mai. You've been like this for days. You're getting worse!" I wrung my hands in anxiety.

I whipped around, ready to leave to call the village physician, Mai when Gramma grabbed my skirt from behind. She pulled me towards her and made me sit on her lap."Don't go, love. You need not worry about me. I don't want you to face insults because of me." Gramma spoke. "I'll die soon, anyway. My days are numbered. It's time for me to leave this place."

"But....Gramma....GRAMMA!!" I wept. "Don't leave me.. don't die..."

I shook free my arm from Gramma's grip and left through the door. I needed to get Mai. I didn't care what the villagers said. Gramma was my everything.

As I hurried past the market, I could see people giving me glares, throwing silent curses at me, make faces and others wouldn't even look at me. I didn't blame them. I am unlucky. I am a monster. I am not a good person at all. I am Silena of the Forgotten Village. I am an orphan. I am a demon.

Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam! I banged on the door of Mai's stone but.

"WHO IS IT?" I heard Mai yell from inside.

"It's me, Silena." I called. The door opened. Mai smiled at me warmly. She was one of the few people who knew exactly who I was and was ready to help me always.

"How's Moree?" She asked.

"She's worse. Could you come and take a look at her?"

"Let's go." Mai picked up a wicker basket, covered with a cloth from under her bed. "I've been working on this." She said. "It's a cure for your grandmother. Let me take this to her."

Both of us sprinted over to my hut. I burst through the door and stopped. Gramma was lying on the bed, unconscious, blood trickling down from her nose. I gasped as tears welled up in my eyes.

"Mai.....please tell me she's okay." I sobbed uncontrollably.

Mai went over to the bed to to take a closer look when somebody knocked on the door. I opened it to find Zhen standing there.

"I heard your grandmother is in critical condition, so I came over." He spoke. Zhen shut the door lightly behind him as he stepped in.
Zhen was two years younger than me. I loved him like my little brother.

I rushed to Gramma's side. Mai was checking her pulse. She wiped Gramma's bloody nose with a piece of cloth and sprinkled some water on her face.

"Get some water, Silena." Mai spoke while making a paste of some herbs, I didn't know the name of. I ran out of the door into the backyard to get some water.

Mai poured the water down Gramma's throat. Gramma suddenly sputtered up the water and began coughing. Mai supported Gramma and helped her sit up.

"Moree, you are unstable. Please take this medicine that I prepared for you." Mai brought the herbal paste to Gramma.

"Zhen," Mai called for the boy. "Feed Moree this medicine. All of it. I need to talk to Silena alone."

Mai grabbed my arm and dragged me outside. "Silena..." She began, but I stopped her. I tried to stop my tears but I couldn't. "Is Gramma going to die?" I whispered.
