I hadn't realized I fell asleep until I awoke to the shouting of Grandmother, and the stomping and crashing of her throwing her alcohol around. Heaving a heavy, worn sigh, I stood and shuffled across the room. Towards the woman who made my life hell. "Evening, Grandmother. How was your day?" I asked in a high pitched voice, feigning happiness. It was always the same. Every fucking day.
"My day was shitty. Why should I have to work my ass off to support you while you lay around on your ass everyday?"
I bowed my head shamefully. "I will find a job, Grandmother."
"You'd best get it done," She swung the front door open, the frosty winds filling the house. "Grab your shit, Go get a job, and don't come back to this house until you have one!"
I nodded quickly, dashing swiftly to get my cloak. I threw it over my shoulders and tied it around my neck. Slipping on black combat boots, I took a shaking step into the dark, snow covered night.
I traveled through the forest, snow dotting my black cloak. I twirled around, trying to figure out where I was. I had been traveling through the dark forest for hours and there wasn't even a street light. I was sure the city was just beyond the forest, I went there years ago with Mother. But, I've never gone at night. Tears welled in my eyes, threatening to flood from my eyes. I collapsed against a tree, burying my face in my hands. I pulled my cloak closer to me, shivering. "Don't cry, Don't cry, Don't cry." I whispered to myself. The last thing I wanted was to be lost in the forest, at night, during winter, sobbing like a child. I've never gotten lost before, nor did I want too. I had nowhere to go. Grandmother wouldn't let me back into the house, no doubt.
I woke to a giant ball of fur curled around me. "Wolf?" I yawned, rubbing my eyes. I looked at his sleeping form, or at least what I thought to be sleeping.
"Did you sleep well, <I>mon amour</I>?"
I jumped at the rough sound of his voice, "Oh, U-uhm. Yeah."
Wolf raised an eyebrow. "So, you can tell me what you're doing here at this time of night?"
I looked up at the sky then back at wolf. "Sleeping, obviously."
Wolf snorted. "You were crying. I could smell your tears miles from here. I'm sure the other demons in this forest could as well. Are you insane? You could have gotten attacked! You're lucky I kept them off of you. You seem to attract demons, It's very strange. This cannot happen again, Velvet. I'm not just some dog that bends to your will. I have things to do that I can't always pause to come coddle you."
I stared at wolf in shock. But, quickly that shock turned to anger. "I didn't ask you to come here! If I'm that much of an inconvenience then you should have just left me for your demon friends!"
Wolf grunted, "Don't say that,<I>mon amour</I>." Sighing, Wolf lifted his gigantic head from his large paws and placed it in my lap. "I just worry about you. I don't encounter many humans that are friendly towards me, So I'm not used to your kind's sensitive feelings." He lifted his head, nuzzling my chest. "Now tell me why you were crying."
I stared at Wolf, giving him a stern look. "Are smelling my breasts?"
Wolf gave me a guilty grin before lying his in my lap once again. "Stop avoiding the subject, mon amour."
I stroked Wolf's head softly. "I was just upset about something. Don't worry about it."
Wolf shook his head, but smiled anyways. "Okay, Whatever you say~"
I sighed, giving Wolf a painfully broad grin. "See?" I pointed at my face, my words ground out due to my grin. "Happy."
Wolf frowned. "Stop that. You're going to hurt yourself." He rose to his paws and stared at me, a frightful look in his eyes. He almost look offended that I refused to admit my issues to him. "If you don't tell me, I'll have to force the answers out of you. You don't want me to do that, Kitten. You humans are so..fragile."
I swear to you my eyes were like saucers. Wolf was threatening me? Over something so small? "And what exactly would you do? You don't even have thumbs."
Wolf gave me a look, as if he knew something I didn't. This angered me. I liked to think I knew almost everything, and him giving me that look was like someone proving you wrong in front of all of your friends. I stood up quickly, glaring at Wolf. "Don't look at me like that!"
Wolf blinked, confusion etching his features. "What on earth are you speaking of, Little Red?"
I ran a hand angrily through my hair, releasing a noise of frustration. "Don't act dumb!"
Amusement.
That's what I saw in that damn dog's eyes.
Fucking Amusement.
I stalked off, my boots crunching under the snow. Wolf followed, of course. Wouldn't want me to get eaten by a raging demon or anything, right?
Hah.
"Slow down, <I>mon amour</I>!"
"Stop Stalking me!"
"Red, Come on. What'd I even do?"
He was so freaking stubborn. It was driving me insane. Huffing, I quickened my pace. Wolf ran ahead of me, standing in my path. "Come on, Kitten. Don't be like that.." I ignored him again, shuffling around his massive body. "<I>mon amour</I>...?"
I stiffened, my entire body running cold. I twirled around on my heal, my black boots squeaking in protest against the white snow. I felt my right eye twitch, and I instinctively curled my hands into fists. "Don't call me that." My voice was like a small stream running over smooth rocks. I was sure my face looked as if it was made of stone. My heart pounded angrily in my chest, and my breathing was ragged.
"Don't call you what?"
I lost it. I stomped up to Wolf, my eyes ablaze with anger. "Don't call me anything! I'm not your kitten, or your love or your little red!" I poked my finger violently at Wolf, causing him to back up. "There's nothing wrong with me, I'm perfectly fine and you should just leave me alone so I can find my way to the village."
Wolf sat back on his haunches, giving me a pointed look. "You don't go into the village. I <I>Know</I> You don't go into the village. Just tell me what's wrong so I can fix it, Okay?"
I stared down at Wolf. Sighing tiredly, I ran my hands across my face. "Just help me get to the village, please."
"You're lost?"
I gave him a pointed look, "I don't know the way there."
"Oh, right."
