Time seemed to fly as Lexa and the others navigated their way onto the roof. It was, as Sierra had said, guarded by two soldiers. However, what she forgot to mention were the twin pairs of guns strapped to their legs. Lexa hadn't seen a gun since...

Well, since that day.

And now, hiding in the shadows beside the top of the stairwell, was not a good time to trek down memory lane.

Still, Lexa found her palms growing clammy, her forehead encasing itself in a thick layer of sweat as her stomach dropped.

It wasn't wise to dwell on the past. In her head, she knew this. Unfortunately, her heart clung to the memory of pain like blood did a blade.

"Hey, you okay?" Clarke's soothing voice eradicated every bad thought in her mind.

"Yes. Concerned, is all," she lied.

Clarke's brows drew together as she shuffled closer to Lexa. But as her eyes followed Lexa's gaze to those weapons, an unspoken question was answered, and she merely took Lexa's shaking hand in her own.

"We're going to get through this. Together. I'm not going to let anything happen to you again, you got that?"

How did she do it? How did she always know exactly what to say to make everything just feel...better?

Perhaps it wasn't the words at all, perhaps it was the courageous, special woman speaking them. And the love in her voice.

The sound of boots scuffing and muffled masculine cries pierced the crisp night air, alerting them to Octavia's success in downing one of the armed men.

From her vantage point, Lexa could see a faint, human-shaped silhouette against the moonlit city sky, presumably belonging to the still-standing guard.

A whistle had the man whipping his head back in the opposite direction where, unbeknownst to him, Echo was ready to pounce. While she hadn't the aggression that Octavia possessed, she had a stealth that was unparalleled.

Lexa pitied anyone with poor enough luck to find themselves battling Echo kom Azgeda.

Lexa would have volunteered herself to remove one of the guards, but with this untested, unreliable body, the risks were too great. She didn't even know if her host was compatible with the life of a warrior.

Would these newly-formed arms be able to hold the weight of a blade? Would these legs, so thin and weak, be able to carry her across a battlefield without tiring?

These were the sorts of questions that would get her killed.

Heads turned towards the hover furthest from them as a deafening thump rang out, shortly followed by the slumping sound of a body slamming into the unforgiving ground.

Another whistle was heard, quick and sharp, that signalled Echo's victory.

Kane, Madi, Raven, Clarke and Lexa stayed low to the ground as they slinked in the shadows and made their way to the hover Sierra had described in her letter. It was Clarke who stood first and, after giving Echo an appreciative glance, tested the hover's door.

It responded to her touch instantaneously, the panel-like door sliding to the side to allow them to enter. One by one they shuffled into the surprisingly large ship, Clarke and Raven immediately swarming to the front, assessing the what Lexa assumed was some sort of control panel.
