"Wait so Jenna, what time do you want to meet up for New Years?" I asked her. We were sitting in my room just hanging out. I was picking at the strings of my carpet, while she had music playing and was dancing around like an idiot.
"I was thinking we leave at like 4ish..? She answered my question.
"Isn't that early?" I complained.
"Well if we want window seats so we can actually see anything outside." There were fireworks outside the windows of the building when the clock hit twelve, and unless you were by a window...you really don't get to see them.
"Fine." I agreed. "Four it is."
"Cool. Do you know what you're wearing?" She asked.
"Jenna, its not a school dance..its new years? Why do I have to put any thought into what I wear?" I asked,
"Why do I need to know what I'm wearing?" She said in a high pitched mocking voice. I gave her a sarcastic look.
"It doesn't matter!" I complained.
"Okay well I am wearing that cute top from-" I cut her off.
"Jenna thats great but I really don't care."
"Jeez, I'll tell someone else then." She bragged, like she had a million friends.
"Who is going to care what you are wearing?" I bent my eyebrows at her, she raised hers and walked out of the room. "Where are you going?"
She didn't answer until I heard her go downstairs and talk to my mom. "Mrs. Lasko, would you like to know what I'm wearing to New Years?" I laughed to myself when I heard her say that.
"She doesn't caare either Jenna!" I shouted down the stairs.
"I would love to know Jenna." My mom half shouted up the stairs, just to bug me.
I heard Jenna start explaining her outfit, which I didn't care about so I just let her talk while I hung out in my room.
After about fifteen minutes of her going on about every stitch on her outfit, I finally heard my mom say "That sounds awesome, can't wait to see it." She didn't actually sound amused.
"Good." I heard Jenna say, then her footsteps walking away.
"Oh wait, Jenna, can you give this to Blair?" My mom said.
"Sure." Jenna came back up the stairs, with an envelope in her hand.
"What is that?" I asked her.
"I don't know, your mom said to give it to you." She said, flipping it over to look at the sender. I watched as her eyes got suddenly bigger.
"What? Who's it from?" I asked, and she smiled at me handing me the letter blank side up. I stared at her for a second while I flipped it over myself looking down at the sender.
Department of University of California, Los Angeles
Sent to the residence of Miss Blair A. Lasko
I felt my eyes widen like Jenna's had, as I ripped open the envelope. I noticed my mom had walked in, and was smiling.
"What's it say?" Jenna asked as soon as I pulled it out.
"I haven't read it yet. Hold on." I said semi nervous, this was my first response from any college. Just the fact that it was the college I most wanted to get into...I had butterflies in my stomach. I shook my head in disbelief after reading the letter, feeling my heart beat slow down. "I got in." I said to myself silently. Then looked up to see Jenna getting closer to hear me as I started amiling and got up. "I got in!" I laughed out of relief.
