Chapter nineteen - Forgiving Is Not Forgetting

A sigh escaped Chance's lips as she took a deep breath and leant against Emmett's jeep, she had been sent to apologise for her behaviour and to invite them to her graduation that was taking place in a few weeks - a month or two before Forks graduation. Sam had decided this was the best way Chance could get back into their lives and continue to spy effectively, but he hadn't told her the invite was to her graduation however..

She had her head snuggled into her maroon beanie and her hair was hugging her neck due to a thin layer of sweat building up on her skin for two reasons: seeing Jasper and talking to her sworn enemy. Her hands remained tucked tightly in the pockets of her leather jacket that she wore over a black scull vest top which had arm holes that stretched down to her lower hip. With this, she wore a pair of black skinny jeans as it was a cold day and she couldn't let it show that it didn't effect her in any way. Her feet were tucked into a pair of Jake's dark grey running shoes that were tapping quickly onto the pavement.

Bobby stood beside her, wanting to enter the school Like he had grown accustomed to in the past, but he was less comfortable entering the building than he was to entering the Rez school.

Chance had to stop herself from scrunching up her nose as she smelt the vampires before she saw them, her body stiffening at the sight of Edward's glare that rested on her shoulders.

He was unable to waste a second, Jasper threw his arms around Chance, ignoring the stench of Jacob that coated the shoes she wore. At first, Chance was shocked that he had welcomed her back so quickly, but she slowly relaxed into him, wrapping her arms around him too.

She saw the flabbergasted looks of the rest of the family and Bella over Jasper's shoulder causing a line to form across her lips. When Jasper pulled away finally, he kissed her softly on the top of the head, not moving his hands from her waist. And she love it. Her heart was swelling.

A small smile now expanded onto her face and she launched herself back into him, sniffling accidentally as she felt tears well up in her eyes. Every Cullen but Edward immediately forgave her, letting Jasper have his moment before Rosalie had enveloped the girl in a tight hug.

"I'm.." Chance began, but paused, seeing Jasper shift slightly out the corner of her eye. Cautiously, she looked up to see him practically jumping with joy, except he kept his feet on the floor, shifting his feet occasionally. "I'm sorry.." she signed, but Alice gave her a disapproving glare.

"Why are you apologising?" She demanded, her eyes alight in confusion, "I've missed you!" With that, the pixie girl had jumped on the shifter, knocking them both onto the floor, both not minding one bit - well, the smell bothered Chance.. a lot..

Once she was back on her feet, Emmett lifted her into the air and spun her around, a shït eating grin on his face. "You know," he signed when he put her back on the floor, "we really didn't want to leave." He promised her. Unsure of whether to believe him, Chance stared at the floor sadly.

Suddenly, she heard Jasper hiss almost soundlessly, but she pretended she didn't hear this before peeking up at Edward who looked ready to attack her. Seeing Bella's distraught face, she knew that the human was confused as to why Chance was here and Edward saw this.

Ignoring this, she remembered everything Edward had done for her; helping her with her homework, defending her against Bella, sneaking her his homework during Bio. And then she jumped onto him. Her very first best friend after being adopted. Sure she had Jacob at the time, but he was obsessed with his friends so they barely saw one another.

It was then that Edward realised how much he truly missed Chance too. His partner in crime, his all around shy best friend. And he hugged back, shocking Bella, who glared daggers at Chance.

When Chance pulled away, she frowned slightly before turning to Bobby and patting his head to calm him after all the commotion that sent him into a happy frenzy.

"I'm here for more than just to apologise.." Chance announced, shyly passing an envelope to Jasper who gave her a confused look.

Hesitating, Chance sent them all a smile, Shocking them. "I hope you can make it." She signed before she began to walk away, Bobby bouncing beside her.

They were unaware of the rain that dropped down onto them now as they watched as Chance sped up into a quick jog, disappearing around the corner. Her breathing slowly fading from their hearing.

"What does it say?" Alice asked, scrunching her nose at the strong scent of wet dog.

Hastily, Jasper ripped open the letter to described a laminated letter addressed to them all.

'Dear Cullen Family;

We would like to invite you to join us at the graduation ceremony of Chance Lively that will take place at La Push Public High School auditorium. If you wish to join the celebrations as our young graduates receive their diplomas, please sign in at the main office at 5:30 - 6:30pm.

During the celebration, you will be offered refreshments and snacks that some of our younger students have generously baked specifically for you.

You have been invited upon special request and your support during this momentous occasion would help inspire our students to carry on and remember all the times they have done well and celebrate their failures with them.

"Come on." Edward grinned, holding the laminated letter a chuffed grin. As they all climbed into their respective cars and Bella had driven off in her truck, Edward and Jasper both breathed out a laugh, both happy to have Chance Lively back in their lives.

When they finally reached home, Carlisle and Esme were sitting in each other's arms, watching a movie that none of them recognised. Upon hearing their adoptive children enter, they turned to them with smiles.

Jasper wasted no time to hand the invitation to Carlisle, who read it out for Esme to hear. The two parental vampires shared a look before Carlisle stood, kissing Esme softly on the top of the head before strolling out, calling Edward to follow.

"We're going to ask the wolves permission to come onto their lands for Chance's graduation." The blonde vampire announced, aware that Edward had already sifted through his thoughts.

But the wolf they were met with at the border made Edward scowl deeply..
