The name of the school is Ninjago Elementary and Middle School. I know, really creative. Anyway, I really don't want to write that out again and again, so I'll use an abbreviation, NEMS. Just wanted to let you know so you don't get confused.
(Third Person POV)
"Sorry." Kai said as he held out his hand. All three schools held their breath. No one wanted to mess with Skylor.
She scoffed and stood up, refusing his hand. He looked taken aback, but quickly got over it when the referee blew his whistle.
Skylor picked up her her first arrow. Aimed it at the target, pulled back, and let go. Archery was the first test. It hit the third rim with a thud. Darkley's applauded while the Training Academy cheered. NEMS yelled shouts of encouragement to Kai. He shakily picked up his bow and slid an arrow into the arrow rest. He pulled back and let go. The arrow hit the outer rim. Skylor laughed.
"Oh please! Is that the best you can do!?" "Oh just you wait!" Kai smirked. Skylor rolled her eyes and picked up another arrow.
Second rim.
Kai followed.
Third rim.
Second rim.
NEMS held their breath as Kai pulled the arrow up to his cheek. He closed his eyes and let go.
The arrow spun throw the air before hitting the second rim. All three schools erupted into cheers. "Nice shot." Skylor said quietly. Kai was shocked, he was never really good at aim. That was Zane's thing.
The referee blew his whistle. "One point for gold! Next up, axes!" The two eleven year olds were supplied with three throwing axes. Kai threw first, his axe landing with a solid thud. Skylor followed quickly. They threw their other two axes without wasting any time. Like it was a competition just between them. They stood back and admired their work. Kai's axes were in the shape of a K, while Skylor's were in an S. All three schools Cheered their loudest for their talent. The referee shared a look with the judges, and they nodded.
"Tie!" The ref shouted. The two students sighed in relief as they picked up the the throwing knives.
It went back and forth until the last round. They each had one shuriken left and were tied. Skylor threw hers and it landed cleanly on the bullseye. She relaxed and looked at Kai.
"Beat that!" She challenged.
Kai looked to the target and took a deep breath. He closed his eyes and threw his final shuriken. It seemed to happen in slow motion, everyone held their breath as Kai let the shuriken fly. It hit the target on the bullseye, getting him one point behind Skylor. Kai barely had enough time to process what happened before the entire tent exploded with shouts and cheers.
The referee blew his whistle to quiet everyone.
"Gold wins! Now shake hands."
Kai sighed in relief and extended his hand towards Skylor.
"Maybe now you'll accept my hand?" He asked playfully.
"I'll do better than that." She said, copying his smirk. She punched him on the arm, "It was nice finally having a worthy opponent." She whispered before she turned around and headed back to her seat.
Kai sighed and wandered back to his seat, completely unaware of his surroundings. He got shocked back into reality when he felt someone jump into his arms.
"That was amazing Kai!"Nya sqealed.
Kai chuckled and looked down at his younger sister. "Nah, it was nothing." He said rubbing the back of his head. "Who's next?"
