Chapter Two
21 years later...
" Come on Sam, open the door" Wiping the tears from my face I ignored the constant banging and pleas for me to come out. My eyes were red and puffy and my makeup was streaked down my face. I looked a mess but I didn't care. Not anymore. " I said I was sorry, it was an accident, please just open the door so we can talk" I scoffed at her words " Go away Becky " I shouted. " fine!" she shouted and then everything went silent. Accident. Ha. How can you accidently fall and smash your lips onto someone else's? and not just some random guy either, it just had to be the one guy I had a crush on since freshman year 'Jake Conroy'
I should of seen it coming, Becky always liked to steal things from me I guess jake was just one more thing. A fresh wave of tears streamed down my face as the image of them two locked in each others arms played over and over in my head. I wish I never came to this stupid party. I looked down at my outfit that becky had picked out for me. I wanted to rip it off and tare it to shreds but I didn't fancy walking home naked. Who the hell wants to be a sexy Witch anyway? What a messed up Halloween costume, witches wernt sexy they were scary. But I guess that was just beckys mentality, everything had to be sexy.
I just finished wiping away the rest of my ruined makeup when someone knocked on the door. " Go away becky, I don't want to talk to you" a masculine voice sounded through the door" I don't know who Becky is, but are you almost done in there, I need to dump some apple juice" My cheeks heated a little at his words but I had one last look in the mirror and decided that it was now or never so I took a deep breath unlocked the door and walked out, avoiding the guy who rushed in after me.
I walked past two people who were dressed as Barbie and Ken eating one anothers faces on the stairs and back into the living room where the party was in full swing, people in various different costumes were dancing, drinking and having fun but not me. i didn't want to be here, so I turned around and headed out the open door. No one stopped me, no one called my name, they just carried on having a good time.
The air was bitterly cold but I welcomed it, I embraced it. It made me feel human. The streets were quiet, the trick or treaters long gone as I made my way down the path to my house. I needed to get out of this ridiculous outfit, eat a tub of ice cream and cry some more in the comfort of my own bedroom.
Walking down the main high street of my little town, I noticed a narrow passage way between two local shops, and thought it might be a quicker way home, so I turned left, not caring that I hadn't seen it before or that there was little to no light, I just wanted to get out of this skimpy Halloween costume. The hairs on my arms and neck stood up as I rounded a corner leading me away from the flickering street lamp and into darkness. Something didn't feel right, so I decided to turn back and take the longer way home but when I turned around, the way I had just came from was now gone. A wall was now stood in its place. I backed away, feeling freaked out, a tiny bit scared.
The only way out was behind me but I wasn't sure what lay ahead. I turned around and stared into the black abys, chills ran up my spine and it gave me bad vibes but what could I do? Where could I go? I took a deep breath and decided to carry on, making sure to keep my phone close by.
I walked slow, the Click, click, click of my heels echoed around me and the sound of my heart beating at a fast pace sounded in my ears. I should never of came this way, I should of just carried on walking down the high street. Now im probably going to get mugged! I could feel the tears in my eyes threatening to spill but I refused to cry, I needed to be strong and I needed to get out of here!
I placed my hand on the brick wall beside me and followed it along the path. The wall was course and rough but I didnt care, I was more worried of bumping into something or someone than getting a few scrapes. The path seemed to go on for ever until eventually my hand touched emptiness, I stopped, un sure weather or not to procced. What if this somehow gets magically blocked by a wooden fence too? What would I do then? But I didn't really have much choice, I couldn't go back the way I came because it was already blocked so the only real option I had was to walk forward and pray it lead to a way out.
Nerves started to creep their way in and I stood here in the small, dark passage way on my own trying to pluck up the courage to move. The air had gotten colder and I now wished id brought a jacket, wrapping my arms around my self I took a tiny step closer, and then another step and another until I rounded the corner and came face to face with a dead end. My heart sunk as I looked at another brick wall that was being illuminated by a light attached to it.
This time I let the tears fall. They were warm on my cheeks as they ran down my face. I knew the passage way I just came from would be blocked like the other before it but it still didn't stop me from turning around and I was right. My heart sunk a little more. I just wanted to go home.
I wiped away the tears that were still falling, turned around and walked closer to the wall , maybe I could climb it? It looked old and untouched, the bricks were a dull red colour and the light matched. As I got closer it looked like a gas lamp, the ones they used in the Victorian age? But that couldn't be right? Surely they would of replaced it with an electric one?.
An outline of an arch was built into the wall and it almost looked like a door. Curious, I stepped closer but as I did so the light flickered and I was plunged into complete darkness. My breath caught in my throat as I stood there, trapped in this abys. The wind suddenly picked up wiping past me, causing my hair to fly into my face. " Samantha.." My name echoed around me " W-who's there?" I called into the darkness, " whoever's there better leave me the hell alone! I know Karate!'' I shouted, hoping that was enough to scare them away, but then the arch in the wall started to glow a soft green, I rubbed my eyes thinking I was starting to see things but when I opened them again it was glowing brighter.
It called to me, my fingers itched to touch the wall and without even thinking, my feet started to move. It felt like my body had been taken over, I knew in my head that I shouldn't be walking towards it but my feet just wouldn't listen. My arm automatically outstretched and as soon as I placed my hand onto it everything seemed to explode. Heat burst through my fingers, traveling all the way up my arm and spreading throughout my body, everything hummed and I felt like I was floating. The archway glowed brighter and my hand started to disappear through the wall, I tried to pull it back but my mind was foggy, and before I realized what was happening I was being sucked through. The last thing that came to my mind before everything went black was ' I just wanted to go home'.
