when she was just three years old, maya jackson was left at "korea love, meal, fair, happy home nursery school" in incheon, south korea. when she had arrived, the staff were shocked. it wasn't normal for children to be dropped off on the steps of orphanages. especially if the child was african american.
for twelve years maya grew up in the orphanage, only communicating with two people there. mr and mrs lee. mr and mrs lee ran the orphanage together out of the kindness of there hearts, and maya love them for it. she knew that most people would be disgusted to see a dirty, snot nosed, african american child standing at their doorstep, but the less really didn't care for race of color. they only cared for what was in people's hearts.
