Sokeefe 80: you know they are going to use the things you love against you

Keefe woke up. Like a normal elf, but only this morning, he noticed that he was not at Candle Shade. Or Everglen. Or anyplace familiar. He tried to rub the grogginess out of his eyes, tried to make his eyes to focus, but everythjng stayed a blurred mess. One thing he did see was the white eye staring straight at him, blaringly white and vibrant, despite how dark the Neverseen was as an organization. And then the pices of the puzzle clicked. He had run from Sophie, from his friends, he was a double Agent for both the Black Swan and the Neverseen. He was figuring out his legacy, his purpose, and he was "protecting" his friends at the same time. Thats why there was the white eye on the dark cloak.

He rubbed his eyes once more, finally clearing the fogginess. His first day with the Neverseen, find his true meaning, find out their tricks of the trade and train to become better than them. If only there was Sophie, she would know what to do, but he HAD to abandon her to SAVE her and his friends. His guilt swept in like the tide, rising and falling and his Empath ability almost increased the feeling, droning out his senses until that was all he could feel. Guilt.

Until it stopped. Voices came from above him, and his feeling returned. He was no longer numb, but instead a living shell that could feel. Without Sophie, he was nothing. At least that is what he thought. When Alvar became visible, giving Keefe a very possible mini heart-attack, he jumped up preparing for the training. Alvar spoke quickly, and left almost no time for Keefe to get ready, meaning the Hair was now neglected, hanging flat and droopy on his forehead. Including The Hair neglection, the clothes provided were basic and pretty much bare bones.

Everything he wore stank of sweat and dirt and grime, like a hand-me-down that was washed in shoe-water and left to dry over top of mud. The cloak he was forced to wear was black with the eye on the shoulder... SURPRISE! Underneath that cloak was an armband with the sign that meant iminent danger and quite possibly death for the Lost Cities and Forbidden Cities.

"Dude. Keefe. Earth to newbie!!" Alvars annoyingly deep voice broke the silence of Keefe's daydream.

"What? I'm waiting on you!" Keefe said like any regular empath. If empaths could feel annoyance and impatience as an emotion, that was Alvar at the moment.

"Lets go." Alvar waved towards the door, ushering Keefe out behind Ruy.

The day went by at a glacial pace. The single hour they practiced body temperature regulation felt like 4 hours, and the 3 hours they spent on appetite suppression felt like 20. And by the time they had been working for 5 hours, Keefe was fed up with the silence. Fed up with the "no news" and the "nothing to share with the Black Swan." It almost made him want to leave, but he knew that Sophie would eventually do something about it. Maybe she would contact him in his endless dreams, his nightmares. After all, she was a telepath.

Ending up back in the cabin-posing-as-a-trainee-sheltery-thing was difficult, but as soon as his head hit the pillow, hr was out like a lightning bug. But similar to a lightning bug, his conscience flipped in and out, he woke then fell asleep and then woke and fell asleep. During some point of middle ground at midnight, a whisper crept into his subconscience. Sophie was suddenly there, not physically, but in his head, she was there. A presence, but not seen.

Keefe. Keefe! KEEFE!

What? Foster?

Keefe was confused. Although he knew she was a telepath, it still made him jump whenever he heard her voice when she was not physically there.

I have been trying to reach you. WHY WERE YOU SUCH AN IDIOT!? I have been worried sick. You better not---

Yo, Foster! Calm down! I can feel your emotions from half way across the world!

Keefe. Get away from there. You know that they are going to twist up you feelings, your thoughts until they arent yours anymore. Please.

He could hear her mental plea, filled with desperation and he was suddenly choking on overwhelming feelings. He could feel her guilt and fear and pain and grief.

Foster. I am okay. Just... I know that they are going to use the things I love against me. So why not love nothing. Saves a bunch of lives. Including yours.

Keefe.... I... Please come back. I love you.

Soph. Have I ever let you down? Well other than leaving to join the Neverseen? And... I love you too. I'm coming back, I promise. Just in due time. When I know that you are safe. Okay?
