The overhead structure creaked loudly, echoing across the length of the map. Trilling happily, Herman walked past, bouncing his weapon in his hands. He approached the storage building and looked up, trying to spot whoever was on the second floor. Of course, he couldn't squint.
The clatter of bones stopped as a totem popped.
He stepped into the doorway as a pale face appeared from the corner of the staircase. He gave chase, big boots making heavy thuds that drowned out the rushed Survivor and their breathing. Once he got upstairs, scratches were everywhere, but nothing else. Generator untouched. He leaned out the hole in the wall and saw more scratches darting off in one direction; he let himself down to follow them. A whole minute later, he had nothing to show. A twitch ran up his neck in agitation. It had probably been the Meg he'd seen, which would explain the supposed Sprint Burst.
He did a 180 and went back to the building, kicking a dropped pallet out of his way. Thumping back up the stairs, he stopped short when something moved behind a crate. Slowly, he crept around. Noone there. He glanced over to the other side of the crates; who had it been? Clacking his teeth, he went to step out the broken wall.
Two small arms wrapped around his waist.
He froze up, mental shock going up his spine instead of physical, as he was used to. He tried to look over his shoulder, but couldn't see far enough. But it was clear it was one of the Survivors.
They held up a crumpled note in one palm, offering it to him.
He took it with his empty hand and skimmed it. Hastily written and a bit hard to understand. He could make out 'affection' and 'okay'.
The Survivor grunted from a shock; with their face pushed into his back, it was too muffled to tell who it was.
He tried to turn around but they shuffled in a circle with him. Reaching around behind him, he tried to grab whoever it was, but their arms vanished from his waist. All he caught was a glimpse of a leg, nearly colorless in the light, speeding down the stairs. Should he chase? He tried to. As soon as he got out the door, the scratches stopped.
Two more generators had been activated in the meantime, taking the total required down to one. Had it been a ploy to distract him? He read the note again. Even to him, it looked a little mad. But... the faint feeling of warmth left in a ring around his belt, it felt... nice.
He turned on his heel and went back upstairs, sitting down on one of the crates. He read the note, again and again.
When the Gates blared on, he wasn't there to watch them open.
He was too busy thinking.
For once, he was the one feeling shocked.

//A.N.:
So in the spirit (no pun) of switching things up (but also yes pun), I played some Doctor today. Had one crummy round, then a pretty good one! A nice Jeff/Bill/Meg/Ace combo who let me shock em as they dropped pallets! And I've been wanting to write some fluff, so I went for some of Mr. Punny. (yes, I HC that.) It probably sounds weird, but I tried to keep it gender-neutral and not reveal the character. Trying to appeal to all?? and I know there's not much actual romance... maybe there'll be a part 2...?
edit: after writing this, it really seems like something I could continue.. I could also make it a story about , instead of an xReader. All up to.. anyone who actually READS THIS. lol.
