"Wake up, Soren, wake up! You're going to be late for school!"
That's my mom. She's always yelling at me to live up to her outrageous expectations.
"I'm up, I'm up, quit shaking me, I'm up," I groaned. "Just get out of my room so I can get dressed." My mom finally leaves my room and I start to put on my usual clothes; a band t-shirt and some black skinny jeans. I trudge down the stairs, grab my bag, and walk out the front door. Walking down the street, I plug in my earbuds and turn on my playlist.
When I get to school, I immediately head to my first class. The bell rings right as I reach my seat. Nothing interesting ever happens in this class, so I talk to Mason, my best friend. Well, my only friend, but I'd rather not talk about that.
The day goes by until it's finally time for lunch. I'm not hungry and the school lunches are gross anyway, so I don't eat. I sit down next to Mason.
"You know, won't always be here to talk to you. Why don't you try to make some friends?" Mason questions. I shrug.
"It's simple. I don't like to talk to people."
"Oh, I see how it is."
"Mason, you dork," I joke. "You know that doesn't include you. You're the only person I actually like talking to. Besides, it's not like anyone else would even want to talk to me."
"Well, I still think you should try. I mean, it's Valentine's Day. Maybe if you talked to people, you could meet that special someone." Mason wiggled his eyebrows at me. I rolled my eyes.
"Whatever you say, man."
Mason isn't in my next class, but there is someone who makes it bearable. His name is Theodore, and he's the most beautiful person I've ever laid my eyes on. I've liked him ever since I saw him in my first year of high school. Now I'm on my last year and still head over heels for this random dude I've never officially met.
Damn, I think. I wish i would have eaten something at lunch. I take a small box out of my pocket. It's full of conversation hearts. I only have them because it's Valentine's Day and I love candy. I quietly open the box and eat a few of the candies, but not before reading the cute little messages printed on the front. Suddenly, I get an idea. I pull a heart out of the box and check the message. It says, "Me & You." Yes, this one's perfect. I flick it in Theodore's direction and it lands on his desk. He picks up the candy and reads it. He smiles as he turns around and his eyes meet mine. I can feel my face turn beet red as he winks and pops the candy into his mouth. He turns back around so he's facing forward again, and that's the last I see of him until the next day.
