Sophitz 81: it's locked!!  You mean we're stuck in here?

It was Christmas season in the Forbidden Cities.  The Lost Cities didn't really celebrate Christmas,  but Sophie? She just new.  Human-raised instincts,  I suppose.  She had woken up early on a sweet morning.  The sky was painted with streaks of color: rich orange,  scarlett red,  yellow lemon,  and blue like a pale blanket misting over the other hues.  Her brown eyes sparkled with sunshine coming through the glass window panes,  her hair was golden,  soft,  and had ringlets at the end resting on her shoulder. She couldn't wait to tell her friends what Christmas really was, and she felt giddy with excitement.

Although Sophie had had a rough night, filled with her nightmarish dreams, of echoes that would haunt her forever, of the Neverseen, of all of the troubles waiting in her world when she woke. Her dreams had been laced with merriment amid the darkness. That explains why she was grinning when the sun shone through her open blinds. Clapping while stumbling down the stairs is quite a task, especially for Sophie. She was the clumsy one who dropped everything and ate too much sugar.

Downstairs on the crystalline table surrounded by luxurious cream colored couches and dark wood chairs, that screamed we are rich and really nice but remind you of a home kitchen, were hundreds of plates of mallowmelt, and indigoobers, and sugar covered pastries and some mushed up purple roots. Just like the entirety of the Elvin world, everything made her feel like royalty, after all she was going to be a part of the nobility.

Edaline smiled as Sophie sat down, and Grady looked at Sophie with a pondering look.

"What?" Sophie asked frustratedly. The way Grady looked at her wanted to make her scream. Like he knew something that she didn't.

"Nothin," he replied, looking down slyly at the the scrolls in front of him.

"Edaline!" Sophie spoke in exasperation, "what is his problem?"

Edaline stayed silent with a cheesy grin. Sophie, being the mature 16 year old she was, ignored their looks, and instead gobbled up 5 helpings of mallowmelt and custardbursts. 5 helpings of each. When she finished, she stood up abruptly, and then turned around without looking at her adoptive parents. Their silence was KILLING her. Not literally, figuratively.

Once upstairs, Sophie reached out to Fitz telepathically, yearning to talk to someone. There was no response. Are you kidding me? Sophie thought. This could not be worse.

She collapsed on her bed with a huff and then tried to fall asleep, suddenly noticing the absence of her burly-but-squeaky body guard. She sat up, calling out to Grady or Edaline. Or both, anyone who answered. Instead of worrying like her usual self, she went to her mirror. Jolie's mirror. Whoevers mirror it was. Vertina flashed into the corner, scoffing at Sophies red tunic and green leggings with a sparkly tinsel looking cape with the Reuwen Crest. Then disappeared.

"You look like a party threw up on you with some sparkly poop added too," a voice said behind her. Keefe Sencen. Relief flooded through Sophie, coursing through her veins.

"Keefe! No one has been talking to me. At all. Grady and Edaline were like hehehe, and then Vertina just went poof."

"You should change cause The Hair is cringing."

Sophie was surprised that 'The Hair' could do anything. It looked like there was enough hair gel to not move after 30 showers.

He turned pale as paper, his face gaunt, like he had seen a ghost. He flinched again, and then left. Sophie felt like she was suddenly in a horror movie where no one could interact with her. Was she haunted? Disregarding her "impending doom" thoughts, she went into her large closet to change. The door slammed behind her and someone grabbed her hand in a non-threatening way. Still, she screamed.

    "Sophie. Hey. Calm down."

She turned around, staring into a boys bright teal eyes. "Fitz? What are you doing in my closet?"

"Ummmm..." His eyes flitted around resting on the ceiling. Sophie glanced up to see mistletoe. "I did some research about Holidays in the Forbidden Cities. I figured that now would be Christmas... So... Merry Christmas?"

He leaned in, knowing too much about Mistletoe and its purpose in the holiday. Sophie wasn't shy. She had been waiting for this moment. They kissed. It did not feel forced or blunt, instead it was sweet and endearing filled with passion. Pulling back, Sophie asked, "Why my closet?"

"I do not even know. But we can leave now. That is all I wanted to do."

Sophie reached over, trying the handle. It wiggled, but wouldn't budge. Metal scraping metal is all that was heard. She kicked the door, she tried using mental strength. It wouldnt budge. "It's locked."

"You mean we're stuck in here!?"

"You're the dumb one who decided to kiss me in a closet!"

"Well I'm sorry that I tried to be romantic. And I totally did not spend 3 hours trying to find out more about the Holidays the humans celebrate. Im sorry for trying to make it special."

"Well you didn't have to close the door!" And then it clicked in Sophie's mind. "Wait. Back up. 3 HOURS!"

He did a sheepish grin. And then he reeled. "Oh my gosh! I am an idiot! Biana is in here!

WHAT!! Sophie's mental voice blared. She used their almost Cognatedom to tell him, quite forcefully, that he was stupid.

Breaking up their mental conversation was the quiet giggle and the slight rustle of clothes in a corner revealed Biana's hiding spot. "You should've seen your faces!!" Biana full out laughed, appearing with a red face and full-fledged smile. "Did you know you guys kissed with your eyes closed?"
