The e-mails always start the same.

Hi Kate!!

Always two exclamation points. Always.

I'm so ready for you! You're bedroom is set up completely, the main color being purple then with hints of green. It's quite pretty!

I know you'll be bringing your entire wadrobe, and from what your dad says isn't much...I bought you a few 'welcome home' clothes! Or back to school, whatever you want to call it!

I can't wait for you to meet Ronan, I haven't talked a lot about you to him but I can tell he's excited. Having a step-sister (or brother for you, obviously) that's the same age will be quite fun, am I right?

The girls are beyond excited for your arrival, Lianna hasn't stopped talking about you! Neither with Skyler. Well, they are my daughters...They tend to get excited, just like me!

I'll talk to you in a little bit, Lia is nagging at me to make her lunch! Can't wait for you to come! Remember, I promised a shopping trip as soon as you get here, so pack your shopping shoes!!

Kisses,

Caylee (call me Mom when you get here, okay?)

I clicked the red 'X' on the top right corner of the email, and closed my laptop with a thud. Everything about my new step-moms e-mails annoy me: The way she's so bubbly and excited, and how she basically tries to spoil me through e-mail, even though I'm not related to the woman. Not yet.

When my mom and dad split up, it was a silent divorce and nobody really knew until they had actually done it. Signed papers and all. My mother sat us down at dinner, (my father was on a 'buisness trip') and told my sister, Mara, and I that he would not be returning. He was moving to South Carolina, my mother would be staying in Virginia. That was that.

Although, that was three short years ago. I hadn't heard from him up until six months ago, when he called my cell phone and told me to talk to my mom about what he e-mailed her. Apparently, he was engaged to a gorgeous, young, blonde with three kids and a beautiful beach house right off the coast of South Carolina. My mother was furious.

"Mom, I guarentee they'll get divorced within a year. Or not even get married, this women will learn how much of a douche bag he is, and will break the engagement." I remember telling her one bitter cold afternoon in March. She was sobbing at the lack of details he had told her, but more than that, she was crying over the details he told her: Gorgeous, young, and blonde.

We didn't learn her name, Caylee, until late May. He called my sister's phone, and told her. Told her the kids names, everything. I was surprised Mara even picked up: When I had picked up, I didn't even know it was his number, I was so mad at the whole sitation that I deleted the contact completely.

So, when I get an e-mail from his newly engaged girlfriend Caylee like she's known me forever, it pisses me off. I've never actually met her, and I haven't seen my father in three years. When I asked him where the hell he was, he told me he was sorry, he was just too busy in South Carolina that he couldn't come up and visit his two favorite girls.

I rubbed my hand against my temple as I scowled in anger. Once summer started, Caylee and my dad invited Mara and I to stay with them for a few years in South Carolina, to make up for the time that we haven't seen them.

Yeah, right. I really want to see you guys after three years or ignorance.

I flipped open my laptop and brushed my fingers over the keyboard, thinking of the perfect things to type. I didn't want to be too harsh: Caylee had done nothing intentionally wrong, except that she took my father from my mom and completely broke my family into two seperate pieces.
