"Another song!" Winona whined, wrapping her arms around Ruth's waist as Ruth set her guitar to one side and gave a light chuckle,

"My love, it's late. We'll annoy the neighbours." The dark haired woman countered calmly, as Winona buried her face in Ruth's tank top and seemingly refused to let go. They were currently sitting on Ruth's bedroom floor in her cosy apartment, and the night sky was clear. The stars were visible even from the hazy apartment windows- a beautiful sight that brought serenity and a vague feeling of distance. The earth was millions of light-years away from those stars, that blinked out of existence or burned fiercely with each passing dusk.

And yet, despite this truth, Ruth was blessed with her own star that wasn't millions of light-years away.

"How about we stay up, then? I don't want to sleep yet!" The blonde mused, pulling away, her bright eyes pleading with her girlfriend. How could Ruth say no to such an innocent request?

"Alright. I'll go get coffee- but you owe me a coffee tomorrow." The taller female sighed, running a hand through her hair and smiling as Winona celebrated a silent victory. They did not have a day off tomorrow- both nurses were back on shift at Fairmount. As much as Fairmount was dynamic and relatively interesting to work at, the thought of returning filled Ruth with a lingering sense of dread.

Hell, she felt like a teenager at school again.

"I'll come with!" Winona mused happily, as she pulled herself to her feet and followed Ruth as she wandered into the kitchen, switching on the light and setting about putting the kettle on and getting two mugs- they had to make do with instant coffee, due to Ruth's blue espresso machine being broken due to a mishap including a lot of alcohol.

Yes, drinking games with Winona usually ended with a mishap of some sort.

"How come you are so obsessed with listening to me play guitar?" Ruth questioned, as her girlfriend leaned against the kitchen counter and observed with a light amusement,

"Because you're great!" The blonde responded cheerily, "You have a wonderful voice!"

Such a comment caused a light blush to paint itself onto Ruth's cheeks- she was embarrassed, yet proud. If Winona believed her voice was wonderful- then surely it wasn't too bad, "Aw, you are too nice." The dark haired female scoffed playfully, as she leaned back against the counter opposite Winona and lightly chuckled. The bright eyed other simply gave an innocent smile and shrugged her shoulders,

"I'm just honest." She responded happily, as Ruth shook her head in a light-hearted manner and made the two cups of instant coffee- adding a teaspoon of sugar and quite a lot of milk to Winona's. The blonde female could not drink bitter, dark coffee and much preferred the sweeter alternative.

It always amused Ruth when she made Winona's coffee or listened to the female order it in a coffee-shop, because it suited her. Her coffee taste suited her.

As sweet as bubblegum.

"Here you go." Ruth spoke gently, passing Winona's coffee to her before grabbing her own black coffee and sighing lightly. Despite it being late, neither of the females were tired. Perhaps that was due to the caffeine, perhaps it was due to the fact they had messed up their sleep schedules all week in an attempt to spend more time together. Winona had been staying in Ruth's apartment for the past three days, making waking up in the mornings so much easier for the dark haired nurse.

Who wouldn't want to wake up to the sun in the morning?

"So, you want to hear another song, hm?"

"Yes! A quieter one, if you don't wanna piss off your neighbours." The shorter female laughed, clutching her coffee mug close to her and putting her face close to the heat of the mug, visibly relaxing as it warmed her. Ruth wanted to melt on the spot, observing how at peace and adorable Winona was.

The small actions that made her who she was. She was just beautiful.

The two nurses made their way back into Ruth's bedroom, sitting down onto the floor and making themselves comfortable. Ruth took a sip of the dark liquid in the mug and then set it down carefully beside her- grabbing her guitar and holding it close, ready to play. Winona sat cross-legged on the bedroom floor, coffee mug in her hands as she watched her girlfriend prepare to play another song, "Any requests?" Ruth jested lightly, as Winona rolled her eyes playfully and sipped at her coffee,

"Play me a song from the heart, Casanova."

That was certainly something Ruth could do.

Gently plucking at the strings of the acoustic guitar, a mellow melody began to fill the room as Ruth began to play, "Hey there Delilah, what's it like in New York city?"

Her fingers glided up and down the fret board as she plucked the strings and sang- this was a song that was most definitely close to the Spanish woman's heart. A song that guided her through much melancholy and gave her something to hold onto. Now, this song reminded her of Winona every time she listened to it and closed her eyes. The calmness and vaguely hazy love that the song filled her with, now connected her to the sweet, blonde female sitting directly in front of her. Ruth would not have it any other way.

"I'm a thousand miles away but girl, tonight you look so pretty. Yes you do. Times Square can't shine as bright as you, I swear it's true."

Winona fell silent as she watched and listened to her girlfriend sing to her. Such a beautiful melody, that it made the blonde want to just burst into tears. Her heart was swelling with an intense love for the taller other. The pure emotion in Ruth's voice just hit the blonde's heart in such a way because of how obvious her love was. Ruth was so very in love with Winona and it showed so very clearly through the gentle smile that pulled at her lips as she sang- the shyness in her eyes as she couldn't even meet the blonde's bright eyes. Oh, Winona felt as though she were floating, the more that Ruth's voice graced her eyes and flooded her heart.

"Hey there Delilah don't you worry about this distance, I'm right here and if you miss me give this song another listen. Close your eyes. Listen to my words they're my disguise, I'm by your side."

A comfortable feeling filled the room- a requited and unspoken love between the two females in this moment. A simple love song that was so pure and genuine- an emotion that was extremely powerful but not lust-driven.

"Oh, it's what you do to me. Oh, it's what you do to me. Oh, it's what you do to me, oh it's what you do to me. What you do to me."

Winona sipped at her coffee as a dusty rose colour painted her cheeks and tears threatened to spill down her face- happy tears, that someone so beautiful could love someone like her. Winona couldn't look up from her coffee mug, afraid to meet those starlight eyes that gazed at her with an ethereal beauty. The dark haired female was afraid to see Winona's expression, for tears threatened to pick at her own eyes.

She was deeply in love, and ever so glad that the universe had aligned in some form to bless her with the woman in front of her, who was as sweet as bubblegum.
