THE DAY IT ALL WENT TO HELL...
It was already eight o' clock when I come running down the stairs, my alarm clock had got reset when the power flickered off last night, how inconvenient. If I didn't already had plans for after school I would had played hookie, but off I went.
Mom was in the kitchen eating a dry toast and her coffee that was so sweet it might as well had been cappuccino, while watching the morning news. She says she watches the news just to see the handsome anchorman, Jack Stone. I must admit, he was very handsome. Six feet two, one hundred and seventy two pounds, very clear that he workout to maintain that perfect physique. He had dirty blond hair with light gray almost clear eyes, he was dreamy.
"I'm off mom!" I yell as I dash through the kitchen to the front door.
"Hold up sweetie!" she calls after me.
I was so close...
I return to the kitchen table where mother sits sipping her coffee. She places the mug on the table and wipes her mouth with a napkin. After placing the napkin down she turns her attention to me.
"You're coming straight home today aren't you?" she ask.
"No, I'm going to the mall with Lisa and Tracey. The new 'Hello Kitty' comes out today." I reply with a matter in fact tone. Mother hates it when we don't get a chance to hang out when she is off from her job which is very rare. She cherishes those times together and don't get me wrong, I love spending time with my mom but today I just have to have that new 'Hello Kitty'.
Mom turns up her face, "Oh, well okay, I'll just do some chores then. You have fun, okay." Her voice is sad, trying to guilt trip me, and it works.
"I can meet you at the mall."
"Really that's GREAT! We will have so much fun!" she exclaims.
Amazing that mother of mines, what will I ever do with her. As I prepare to head out the door, Jack Stone comes back on the screen with a breaking story. I turn back to the television, lost in his gaze.
"Last night after three a.m., an small explosion caused a power surge at the nearby medical lab, Central Medical and Science Institute nearly eight hundred people had experience power outages in the neighboring area. The city has been rapidly trying to restore power to all homes.
Well that explains my alarm clock, but what would cause an explosion in a medical lab?
It was lunch and they served the usual, cold pizza, corn and milk, since when did pizza, corn and milk ever go together? We sat at the table and of course we couldn't help ourselves from talking about the new Hello Kitty we were about to get our hands on. Lisa and Tracey both shared my passion for cute fury things, rather real or animated. We were just normal high school sixteen year old's.
"So Morgan tell me, how many you plan on getting?" Tracey ask.
"I don't know, I thought about maybe three. Two at the least!" I answer.
We continue our conversation until he came over, Thomas Kirk, the most annoying and weird person in school. He comes out of nowhere scaring the crap out of us. He leans in between Lisa and Trace as he leans in towards me.
"Did you hear!" Thomas yells.
"Uh, what do you want Thomas." Lisa replies.
"Excuse me but I was talking to Morgan." Thomas remarks in a snotty kind of way.
Lisa rolls her eyes and I answer kindly so he can hurry up and leave. "What do you want Thomas?" Thomas was quite large and had a slight nasty odor to him and smelled of wet dog. His hair was always damp, probably due to his rapid sweating.
