Chapter 5

It was 7:40am and after a good night’s sleep everyone was wide awake. Well, except for Niall. Louis, Zayn and Liam had just spent the last 10 minutes trying to get him to wake up but he would keep pushing them away. We even brought in Charlie and tried to get her to wake him up but he still wouldn’t budge.

‘That’s it.’ I said walking down the stairs into the kitchen. I pulled out a pancake mix, poured in the water and shook the bottle until it resulted in gooey pancake mixture. Liam and Louis both watched me as I turned on the stove and started pouring in the mix. After one side was cooked I flipped the pancake over and cooked the other side. Soon it was cooked and the lovely smell of hot pancakes filled the kitchen.

Now for my favourite part.

‘Someone get a stopwatch, this could be funny.’ Louis said from behind me. I winked at him and cleared my throat.

‘NIALL! I MADE PANCAKES!! IF YOU WANT ANY COME DOWN RIGHT NOW!’ I shouted. I smiled to myself impressed with the volume level my voice reached. We were all silent as we heard a loud thumping noise coming down the steps.

‘Alright, I’m up. I’m up! Bring on the food.’ A tired Niall with eyes wide open said as he entered the kitchen.

‘5.3 seconds.’ Louis cheered from where he now sat at the kitchen table. He high fived Liam and they both laughed. Niall, completely oblivious to what was happening with Lou and Liam grabbed the plate with the pancake out of my hands and walked straight over to the table and dug in. I sighed and went back to cooking the pancakes. Boys.

                                                                                 ***

Ten minutes later I had One Direction, Charlie and Daniel all sitting at the kitchen table eating pancake after pancake. I think I’ve had about one and a half. I hadn’t heard anything over the loud racket the boys and Charlie made so I was confused when Daniel got up from the table and left the room. I shrugged my shoulders and tuned back into the conversation.

I had totally forgotten who I’d invited over until I saw all of the boys stop talking and were all looking in the direction of the kitchen door. Harry, who had a pancake hanging out of his mouth, dropped his jaw and I saw the pancake fall from his mouth onto his plate. Niall was fighting Zayn for the last of the maple syrup but they both stopped now both tightly grasping the bottle. Liam was staring at the doorway waiting for the girls to scream and Louis looked from me, to the girls, to Charlie, then back at me. I spun around and smiled weakly.

‘Surprise…’ I said, studying their faces searching for what their reaction would be like.

Courteney stood there with her jaw dropped and Madi dropped her Country Road bag and stared at me with wide eyes.

I coughed a laugh and turned back to the boys.

‘Boys, that’s Courteney and that’s Madi.’ I said pointing to each of them in turn. Madi managed to raise her hand enough for it to be classed as a wave but Courteney just stood there with her jaw hanging wide open.

‘Courteney, love, might wanna close your mouth. You’ll catch flies.’ Charlie said from behind me. I laughed.

I saw Daniel standing right behind the girls holding in his laughter. The room was an awkward silence for a moment until Harry stood up and walked over to the girls.

‘Hi, I’m Harry. You’re Courteney?’ He asked Court and she just nodded. ‘And you must be Madi.’ He said to Madi. She smiled and blushed. She composed herself and took the hand Harry held out to her. She shook it and smiled up at him.
