Wake Me Up

Chapter 2

I turned around to see Luis behind me.

"Oh.. Um.. I just accidentally ran into this girl. She seemed really nice. That all," I said. trying to sound nonchalant.

"Okay," he said, "well I was just gonna go get something to eat and I was wondering if you two wanted to come." Ally looked at me and nodded, which was weird because she didn't even like Luis. Maybe it was because she knew he's pay.

"Sure," I said, taking in a breath, "we'd love to." We got up and packed our stuff. Ally decided it was a good idea for us to take her car, so she drove to the nearest burger place. I sat in the front with Ally, leaving Luis in the back. I actually felt bad for what I said to Luis so I knew I'd have to apologize eventually.

Ally parked in the closest spot she could find and we got out of the car. I looked around the parking lot and saw a girl who looked a lot like the girl I ran into earlier. Camila. It definitely was Camila. I also saw her boyfriend and two other girls with her and I recognized one of them from school. I took Luis hand and started walking over to them.

Luis looked confused at my sudden action and asked,"What are we doing Lauren?"

"I know that girl. She goes to school with us and I just wanted to say hi," I said and smiled, trying to ignore his confusion. I kept walking toward them with Luis right by my side and Ally who started following us when she realized we were walking away.

"Hey Normani," I said once I reached them. Normani and I weren't really friends but we had a few classes together.

"Oh hey. Lauren right?" she asked. Apparently she didn't know me as much as I knew her, but I just nodded. "Um these are my friends Dinah and Camila," she said, "and Camila's boyfriend Austin." I think Austin recognized me because he gave me a weird look, but he stopped when he noticed Luis. Did he think I was gay?

"Hey! I ran into you today at the beach. I didn't catch your name," she said, apparently not remembering what Normani had just said.

"Camila. I called her Lauren. Her name is obviously Lauren," Normani said, rolling her eyes.

"Right. Lauren. Okay. Well it's good to actually meet you," Camila said. She seemed nervous.

"I'm her boyfriend," Luis said quickly. I'm guessing he knew the real reason why I walked over to them. There was a little awkwardness once he said that so I squeezed his hand lightly, hoping Camila would notice. Did I want to make her jealous?

"We should all sit together!" Ally exclaimed, probably just wanting to break the silence. And so everyone walked in.

I kept hold of Luis' hand as we found a table. There were two empty seats next to Camila, so I immediately took the one nearest to her. Camila on my left. Luis on my right. Ally sat across from me between Normani and that Dinah girl. Austin was left on the end because he came in last. Ally and Dinah seemed to get on well, even though they'd never met. There was complete silence on my side of the table until someone decided to break it.

"You go to school with Normani? I'm guessing you're really rich," I heard Camila say. I don't know why, but I got kind of offended. Did she think I was a stupid rich kid who's parents do everything for me?

"Um, no," I said with a tone of annoyance, "I actually have an academic scholarship. I had to work to get into one of the top schools." That was completely true.

"Oh sorry," she said, looking away from me. A waitress came to our table and took our orders. We all got the same thing, though. Coke and a cheeseburger.

I talked to Normani a lot, ignoring Camila after what she said. I noticed her looking at me quite a bit, though she was talking to Austin. And then I felt it.

There was a hand on my left thigh, and my first instinct was to hold it, thinking it was Luis. Then I realized. Camila on my left. Luis on my right.
