It's Complicated

Chapter 5

 Aaron's POV

As I waited for what felt like ages for her to tell me who Daniel was, she began

"Actually, Daniel is my best friend."

The second I heard those words I felt like jumping 100 feet in the air but resisted the urge to do so.

'Weird. You don't even like her.' Said my inner voice.

'Whatever!' I told the inner voice to shut up.

"Oh. So is it fine if I meet him?" I asked hoping for a positive answer.

"Urm, yeah sure. You can meet him at the party tonight" She said with a smile.

"Sure. That would be great. Oh wait, can I have the details for the party?" I asked.

She said "Oh sure. So there is this hall in Justin’s community where parties are held. So he managed to book that hall for tonight and decided to throw a grand feast for the seniors." She continued "A lot of people will be there. Everyone loves Justin's parties! Even people who don't like him. So since its your first week here why don't you come for the party? You'll get to meet a lot of really nice people there. Well, except for Justin."

She said the last part with disgust in her voice and I laughed at it.

"What?" She asked innocently "He's a jerk."

I laughed again and said "Ok, cool! So, can I have your number so I can call you for the address?"

"Sure here you go" she replied.

I quickly grabbed a pen and paper and jotted down her number. As I finished the bell rang.

"Ok, let's get to class. You have English, right?" Mia inquired.

"Yeah. Same as yours." I said with a small smile.

As we were entering english someone hugged Mia from behind.

"Miaaaaaaa" exclaimed the girl who hugged her.

"Hey, Aly!" Mia replied while returning the gesture.

"Who's this?" The girl name Aly asked while turning towards me.

As I was about to answer Mia said "Oh sorry! I forgot to introduce you guys." She smiled sheepishly and continued "Alyson, this is Aaron. Aaron, this is Alyson, my best friend, but you can just call her Aly. "

"Hey Aaron! Did you just enroll?" Alyson asked me.

"Yeah, I did." I replied with a smile.

As Alyson was going to ask me something the teacher walked in.

"Good morning class!" she said.

And all the students greeted back.

All of us rushed to our places.

Suddenly the teacher notices me and asks "Hello. Are you a new student?"

"Yes, ma'am!" I reply politely and I hear Mia snorting beside me.

"Ok welcome to New Land High school! I'm Claire and I'll be teaching you English." She said.

I nodded and she instructed me to sit down.

The class went by slowly.

And that hour felt like months.

Since English was the last period we all grabbed our bags and dispersed.

Me and Mia headed to our lockers, and what luck our lockers were just adjacent to each others.

"Hey Aaron, where do you stay ?"Mia asked me as she took out some books from her locker.

"House 24 on oak street" I replied.

"Seriously? Cool. I live just 2 houses away from you." Mia said enthusiastically.

It felt good being wanted. Especially by her, and here I was thinking that she would be displeased by my presence.

She continued "I usually go with Daniel but he has to stay extra hours for basketball practice. So I have my car and we can go together, if that's ok with you?" She asked.

"Sure. A ride home would be great!" I replied with a smile.

We went to the school parking area and I sat inside Mia's car.

Mia's POV

As we sat inside my Camry, I started the engine.

Suddenly Aaron asked "Are you sure you can drive? And are you even allowed to?"

"Hey! Don't underestimate me, Aaron. I can drive and" She took out a small card from her bag and continued "this here is an official permit to do so" she said as she waved her license in her hand.

There was silence for about 5 minutes when Aaron decided to break it by asking.

"Where does Daniel live?"

" I live in the 22nd house and he lives in the 21st" I replied.

"Wow! Best friends. Live next to each other. Who knows what can happen!" Aaron said teasingly.

"Oh please, Lanter! We are just best friends....nothing more, nothing less." I said sweetly.

It's so weird that Aaron talks about Daniel as if he's the worst guy on the planet. When Daniel is just the opposite.

Aaron isn't jealous. No! He can't be jealous. He rejected me before he knew I was moving away. He doesn't like me and I have to live with that fact.

The one year of not talking to him helped me get over him quicker than I had expected. I just hope, I don't make a mistake of falling for him again. Now since hes here, anything can happen, I just need to be careful.

As I stopped outside Aaron's house he turned towards me and said "Thanks Mia. And about the party details, since we live so close is it ok if I come over at 5 to ask you the address for the party? And I also need to borrow some notes cause I need to cope up.....so, is it ok if I borrow your notebooks?"

"Sure! You can come over at 5 and take the books." I said with a smile.

"Ok then! See you at 5. Thanks again for the ride!" He said as he got out of my car.

"No problem! See you. Bye." I replied.

He waved one more time before I drove towards my house.

Just realizing something I automatically said "Shit! I totally forgot Daniel is coming over after school to study English and we had decided that we would go for the party together."

Then it suddenly hit me;When he was teasing me with Daniel I could sense that he was tensing up since he didn't make direct eye contact.

'Oh god! I wonder how Aaron would react when he meets him.' I wondered as I entered my house.
