"She is just tremendously exhausted," said Shuri as a couple of other medical experts started examining Bella as she lay motionless on the infirmary bed.
"What about those green marks?" asked Spice.
"We don't know yet," said Shuri.
Bucky clenched his fists as he watched from outside the glass door of the infirmary, waiting for the doctors' approval so he could see her. Steve looked worried, as did Nick Fury. T'Challa had gone down to the prisons along with M'Baku to prepare a better containment status for the Hydra men.
The incidents that took place in the cells were not unknown to anyone and it had been particularly difficult to contain Natasha and Sam who wanted to punch out the living daylights of the Hydra men when they heard how they tried to mentally torture Bucky.
Shuri motioned with her fingers and Bucky entered the room, followed by Steve, Spice and Nick Fury. Bella was lying on the bed, her eyes closed but she stirred, showing them that she would wake soon.
Their jaws dropped when they took in her appearance.
Most of the scars on her body was adorned with green lacy patterns. There was a nice one on her forehead where a deep gash had been formed more than two years ago when Bucky had thrown her out of a moving car. Her left hand which had two fingers missing, had lacy swirls coming down from the base of her little and ring fingers, creating a graceful pattern on the front as well as the back of her palm and then formed a beautiful knot at her elbow. A nurse lifted Bella up slightly so they could look at her back and they gasped.
The whip lashes were now adorned with a similar pattern from her arms, but in perfect symmetry.
"What are these?" asked Steve.
"No idea," said Shuri. "They feel like a part of her skin. Not tattoos, skin."
"I am not surprised," stated Fury, "she is literally the Earth's child, she could be blessed."
Bucky just shrugged as he caressed Bella on her forehead. The patterns or scars didn't matter as long as Bella was with him, and she was.
Bella moaned once and then opened her eyes, jerking mildly.
"It's okay," said Bucky, helping her sit up. "Everything is fine."
"What the hell," muttered Bella, eyeing the IV as a glucose solution dripped continuously into it.
"You were tired," said Bucky, following her gaze. "They will take it out in a minute."
"What happened?" asked Bella, "why does Father look so worried and why is Steve babysitting us and why is my sister looking at me like I am about to burst into flames?"
"You are not about to burst into flames," said Spice, "you look beautiful. Bucky, make sure she sees a mirror today."
"I can't believe this," said Bella.
"Why not?" asked Bucky, holding her from the back as she stared at the mirror. She had been standing in front of her reflection for the last ten minutes, examining each and every design, expecting them to vanish or rub off.
"I am not- this is not okay."
"The Earth just blessed her child. What is wrong with that? You faced Thorn and the other Hydra men to keep me safe. You faced them for the last one year and endured unthinkable tortures to keep others safe. The Earth just rewarded you and marked you as her own."
