"WHAT? You can't be serious!", Hermione said to Professor McGonagall, who was sitting right in front of her.
It was the year after the war and school would be starting in two weeks.
"Yes, I am serious, and I don't appreciate the way you are talking to me."
"Sorry", Hermione blushed.
"This is very important, and I chose you because I know I can count on you."
"But Draco hates me! I can't get him to like me!"
"I wouldn't ask you if it wasn't important. Voldemort is gone, the death eaters, too, but I have reasons to believe that the death eaters will take avange for killing Voldemort. And when you get together with Draco Malfoy, hopefully everyone will see, that we are all the same now, there is no evil left.
Of course, this is not forever. Maybe for just a year or so."
"But I can tell Harry and Ron, right?"
"No, I'm afraid you can't. We can't risk that anyone finds out. I'm sorry."
"But what will I tell them?"
"I'm sure you will come up with something. Now, if you don't mind, I have to go."
"Sure. Goodbye, Professor."
"I'll see you in two weeks."
Hermione went out and thought about it. What would she tell Ron and Harry? They would never talk to her again! But maybe Draco wasn't interested in her and he was still the little git that he was before.
And then there was this other thing... That thing with Ron. She really liked him, and when he found out that she "loved" Draco Malfoy, he would hate her forever.
Lost in thoughts, she didn't know that she already ended up in Diagon Alley to buy her school things.
She was supposed to meet Harry and Ron at Gringotts, but they were nowhere in sight, so she exchanged her muggle money and waited outside.
10 minutes later, they came out of Gringotts, and when they saw Hemione, they ran towards her and screamed "Hermione!" and hugged her.
"Guys, we saw each other just three days ago!", she laughed.
"I know. I'm just so happy that we can go to Hogwarts again and this year is going to be normal, with Voldemort gone. I don't know if that's good, because it will be very boring, just doing nothing", Harry said.
"But we have to study a lot!
Oh, and I'm Head Girl this year!", Hermione squeaked.
"Oh, congratulations, 'Mione!", said Ron and Harry.
"So, do you know who will be Head Boy?", Harry asked.
Of course she knew. Professor McGonagall chose Draco because of her "mission".
"Yes, uhm, well... Draco."
"What?? Oh my god, I'm so sorry for you, 'Mione!", Ron said, but Hermione answered:
"Well, I don't think it's that bad. Maybe he has changed. After all, he didn't tell Bellatrix and the others it was us at Malfoy Manor."
"That doesn't makes him any better! He called you mudblood, forgot that?", Ron screamed.
Great, just because of this stupid mission Ron was mad at her now.
"No, of course not, but I'll give him a try! And if you won't accept that, I'll better go now!"
"Uhm, no, I'm sorry..", he mumbled, and Harry quickly said:
"Okay, shall we go now?"
The rest of the day was actually funny. They went to buy books, new robes, and other equipment, and laughed a lot.
After they bought all the things they needed, they went to eat ice-cream.
"Hey, look who's there", Ron said and his smile faded away.
Draco and his mother were standing in front of Madam Malkin's and were heading in their direction, but when Draco saw the three of them, he stopped walking and said something to his mother, and they went in the other direction.
"Still weird, the little ferret", said Ron.
"RON!", Hermione said.
"Sorry", he mumbled.
When they finished, Hermione said:
"I think I'll go back to the book shop, I saw a book that was really interesting, I think I'll buy it."
"Oh, sure, just wait a minute, I'm just going to pay", Harry said.
"Oh no you don't have to come with me. I'll see you at the Hogwarts Express then", she answered.
"Uhm, okay, see you", said Ron.
She went to the book shop and bought the book. When she got out, she walked straight into someone, and all her bags fell to the ground.
"Shit", she said and began to pick up her things.
"Watch ou-", the person said, and Hermione could recognize this voice everywhere.
"Granger. Uhm.. sorry"
What did he just say? Did he really just apologize to HER?
"Oh.. no problem", she said and Draco helped her pick up her things.
Okay, this was weird. Why was he being nice?
"Soo.. can I make up for this? Maybe we could get a drink something", he said shyly.
She smiled. This wasn't going to be as hard as she thought.
"Uhm, sure", she said and they went to an old bar. Draco ordered two butterbeers and they sat down at a table.
"Isn't your mother waiting for you?", Hermione asked him.
"No, she left an hour ago, she wanted to visit my father in Azkaban."
"Why didn't you go with her?"
He blushed and said:
"Actually, I never visited him. I never saw him since the war."
"But why?"
"What he did is just inacceptable, and I don't want to see him anymore."
"Oh, okay.."
"And where are Potter and Weasley?", he asked, changing the subject.
"They left, and I just wanted to buy a book, when you ran into me", she smiled.
"Oh, yeah, sorry about that", he said.
"Why?"
"What?", he looked puzzled.
"Why do you apologize to a mudblood?"
He shivered at the word and just said:
"Well, I changed. "
"I really like the new Dra.. uhm, Malfoy."
"Well, thanks. And I have to be nice to you, we will share the same common room for a year ", he smiled.
They talked for another two hours and 10 butterbeers, when Hermione decided to leave.
"But, Malfoy, I really think you should visit your father. He's your father, and you should listen to what he has to say", she smiled.
"I don't know.. I'll think about it. See you at Hogwarts", and he disapparated.
