The apocalypse began on a beautiful spring afternoon deep in the Amazon in a vast unexplored region of Vale Do Javari, Brazil that bordered Peru. It did not come heralding in with the trumpets and vengeance of an avenging angel. At first, it moved slowly, unsteadily like a crawling infant, then came the confident strides of a tracker, and finally the amazing and fearsome flight of a predator. Its beginning was so innocuous and innocent that news stations around the world announced it as a major historical occasion worthy of celebration.

Young, handsome adrenalin junkie and newly minted archeologist, Jack Sawyer, looked like he stepped off the cover of a trashy romance novel. Anyone not impressed by his Hollywood good looks, abundant charm, and daring escapades, were amazed by his discovery that afternoon. Jack and a few of his friends decided to celebrate graduating college with a trek down the Rio Negro River. While taking a small break onshore, Jack needed a moment away from the antics of the pack of former frat boy. Pushing aside vines and stepping deeper into the jungle, Jack was suddenly transfixed by the vision before him: a beautiful, green-hued edifice long ago abandoned by an unknown civilization.  Its vastness rivaled that of its distant neighbor, Machu Picchu.  Even more shocking was that it had stayed hidden for unknown centuries.

The world was hungry for information about the discovery and the man who had found it. When asked about the first moment he laid eyes on it, Jack Sawyer described it akin to a beautiful woman stepping out into the sun. The news outlets dubbed it, "Sawyer's Fortress." After Plague swept through communities, then regions, and finally countries with no mercy, the structure was later deemed "Sawyer's Folly," but Jack was no longer around to witness it.

Shortages of basic necessities spawned bands of militants seeking dominion over others. Neighboring communities went to war with each other. Small pockets of civilians fortified their communities for a relatively safe place to begin anew. The lucky ones were left in peace; Mayhem, Oklahoma was not one of the lucky ones.
