dead silence, silence, concrete graves, concrete ruins of the humanity, the sea of bodies buried under the ashes of yesterday, gray, gray dust. the end, the end of civilization, the wind howling in the midst of nothing, cavernous graveyard, she is alone, alone, wastelands - her home, among crushed bones and debris, among the fallen. she breathes, inhales toxic fumes but is she alive? no, it's not life, it's agony, struggle for survival, slow lonely agony. like an animal, existence from day to day, torture in hell, burning hell!
hell on earth! why, why?! echoes, nothing but echoes, no heartbeat, no birdsong, deafening silence.
she, curled up under a plastic sheet, a den, a home, rusty cans, broken mirror and weathered one-handed teddy bear - Mr. Paw, her only friend, companion in the misery - hugged to weary flesh. tired, hungry, when she ate the last time? lonely, scared petite girl thrown into a cruel and merciless world, fighting for survival. how long, how long she lingers here?
it's irrelevant.
moonless nights, burning sun, again again - the eternal rhythm of nature. time, time does not matter anymore. minutes. hours. days. the clocks have stopped on the day that Earth died. she's humming a melodious lullaby of a child who grew up too fast, lonely voice in the dark, quieter quieter when she falls in a nightmare under silvery light of a thousand stars.
but what is this noise? debris grinds, broken glass shuffle, rats? rats having a nocturnal feast? steps, stamping, shufflin? rats or stray dogs? but, the noise gets louder, creeps closer, she's afraid, she's scared, it MUST be animals, no one has survived, nothing can be seen, only darkness. hope blooms, whisper, she whispers, she spoke so long ago.
will anyone hear her? ❝ who's there? ❞
