I got into my work. My father also taught me to channel my emotions. So I channeled my odd emotions into my work. By the time I finished I looked up at the dimming sky.
Wow it must be very late.
I dragged my tired body back to the house ready to just fall asleep. Unfortunately, my stomach also required attention. I sat down at the table after washing my hands, which by the end of the day had gotten black.
I sighed, and waited for Rosemary to bring the dinner out. I normally helped but during the summer she knew I was exhausted by all the work. She brought out the food and we both sat down. Just as we did so Anders stepped into the room.
“I didn’t miss dinner did I?” he said. He had his shirt back on but you could tell he also had a hard day. His loose hair flat against his forehead with sweat beading down the sides of his face, I just stared like the idiot I am.
Thank god for Rosemary.
“No dear you didn’t we were just about to start”, she smiled up at his tall figure.
“Great”, he smiled at her and then briefly looked at me.
I looked at my plate as he sat down next to me.
“This seat isn’t taken is it”, he said with a small smirk on his face. I could tell he was trying to maybe start a conversation.
“No”, I said in my small quipped voice.
We all began gathering our food onto our plates. I smiled inwardly at the huge amount of pasta Anders began piling onto his.
I guess he noticed me watching because he have out a laugh and said, “I’m a growing boy what do you expect”.
And at that I actually did let out a smile but I quickly looked down for fear that he would notice my small blush that had appeared.
Damn these cheeks of mine.
And of course Rosemary had to catch my face at that exact moment.
She put on a knowing smile.
Great.
“So Anders, dear, do you have a young lady waiting for you back home?”, Rosemary began.
I shot her the most threatening look I could muster.
“Uh, nah I’m not really into the whole dating thing I guess”, Anders replied looking completely calm. His eyes trained to the meal in front of him.
I began coughing. ‘Not into the dating scene’ meant he didn’t stay with girls longer that to get in their pants and run. Even Rosemary’s smile looked a little strained.
“Oh, well that’s too bad”, her tone giving away how she looked down upon his answer.
I tried giving her a look to stop the conversation.
“Well I’m sure if you meet the right lady…” Rosemary started.
I glared daggers at her, she was not getting my hint obviously.
“Maybe”, was all he could say in response.
I finally finished my food and left our large wooden table for the comfortable silence of my room.
I showered off the day’s work and went out to my balcony.
I had missed the sunset, but, the sky was not yet completely dark. The dark purples and blue were still slightly present.
My gaze traveled lower from the sky and rather unintentionally on the guest house. (Okay maybe a little intentionally) I could see movement behind the curtains. Suddenly they opened.
