CHAPTER 59: NEVAEH
The wolves were frantic, their claw's scratching fiercely at the base of the tree. The frustration of being unable to climb was evident on their face's. A surge of growl's filled the air surrounding us. Jake in particular was becoming less and less patient by the millisecond. He was on his hind leg's, his front leg's leaning against the tree so that his body was now towering over his brother's.
Edward was crouched down beside me, ready to spring into the tree at under a second's notice. His body looked as if it was shaking with anger. What was going through this vampire's mind?
The young vampire continued to dance to and from the tree top's above us. Continuing to press the button's she full well knew she was resting on. Her perfect skin shooting off sparkle's as the sun hit her, when she leapt into the sunlight and back again. Her short brown hair swaying in the breeze that was non-existent to those of us still on the ground and her eye's, her red eye's fixed solely on one member of her audience in particular.
Me.
"No!" Edward hissed as Jacob made yet another attempt to leap up and into the tree. I don't know why he was trying. Wolves couldn't climb tree's. "Nevaeh" Edward addressed, his voice betraying his anger perfectly "Who are you?"
Nevaeh? Was that her name? Well, Nevaeh was about to die.
Another shrilling laugh escaped the vampire's lips; "Who am I?" she bellowed, not once slowing between the tree top's. I was eyeing her carefully, trying to pick up a pattern in the movement's she was making. If Edward could distract her long enough I would be able to launch myself into the tree and destroy her before she had the chance to see what was happening to her. "I think you know the answer to that young Edward"
I couldn't prevent the growl that left my lip's when she laughed my husband's name. I could almost taste the dislike I had for her on my tongue. Every part of me wanted to rip her limb's from her body. But I reminded myself that we needed to get information from her first. Clearly Ness wasn't with her- but from her demeanour it was obvious she had been sent here to do a job. She led us off the right trail- providing Tanya with a chance to escape. But I don't think Tanya had counted on Edward being as close as he had been to the trail- he would be able to get the information we needed from her.
Then I would destroy her. For no reason other than her part in keeping my daughter away from me.
"Maybe I should rephrase the question Nevaeh" Edward hissed, cocking his head slightly to the side and a hint of a smirk appearing on the corner of his lip's "I know what you are. And I know why you're here. But what I asked was- WHO are you?"
Nevaeh's movement's slowed, her face giving away how deep in thought she was. I knew by the smile that gradually grew on Edward's face that he had gotten to her. Her thought's were giving away something that he had wanted to know. And then an awkward laugh escaped her lip's.
"I see what you are trying to do" she growled, the laughter still not quite disappearing from her tone. "But it isn't going to work. I know what you can do- and your game's won't"- her face twisted into a scowl-"work with me"
"Really?" Edward mocked, his grin getting wider by the second.
"Yes. Really" the dancing vampire scowled back "You won't find your precious daughter- I don't know where she is"
Another rippling laugh left her lip's and her head flew back as her body shook with the dramatic effect's of the laugh.
That did it. Without thinking of what I was doing I leapt into the tree next to the laughing monster. I glanced across and looked at her, her red eye's were now locked on mine and a large smile spread across her face.
