Chapter 5
The rest of the week was pretty uneventful, but I felt like me and Callum got a little closer. We are going to go on a nice hike this weekend, just us two. It's Friday after school and Hope was taking us home for the night.
“So, are you ready for your date tomorrow?” I shrugged my shoulders.
“I mean, I wouldn't really call it a date. I would say that it's hanging out.” We pulled into our driveway and headed into our house.
“Mom, would you call going on a hike with a boy alone, a date?” Hope asked walking into the kitchen.
“If it's with the boy you went on a date with earlier in the week, then yes.” Mom said, putting down the magazine she was reading. I rolled my eyes at her.
“Ok, well I'm going to go to my room and do my homework.” I ran up the stairs and went into my room. I sat at my desk and started doing some English homework. I started thinking about tomorrow and how it was all going to play out, I'm kind of nervous actually. I got up from my chair and changed my clothes, I think I'm going to go on a nice walk to clear my hear. Quickly changing into some shorts and a tank top, I headed down the stairs.
“Hey mom, I'm going to go walk around a little bit. I'll be back in an hour probably.” I went out the front door and walked down our driveway. While walking around the neighborhood, I saw that there was a trail going into the woods. This is a nice change of scenery. I haven't been in the woods in so long, not since before we left California. There was something that smelt really good, so I followed the scent, which took me off of the trail. I don't think I've ever smelt something this good, it was a mixture of woods and vanilla, I was in heaven. I stopped dead in my tracks. Is that a freaking wolf! I backed away quietly, trying not to draw attention to myself, but the wolf's head snapped over to me. The wolf had deep brown eyes that felt like they were staring into my soul. I wasn't ready to meet another werewolf. You heard that correctly, I have met a werewolf before, because I am one, so is Hope. My mom isn't, which makes us think that my dad must have been. Mom doesn't know that we are werewolves. She would flip and probably try to kill us or something. I turned on my heels and ran back to the trail.
“Wait!” A voice from behind me, called out. I ignored it and kept running, I ran all the way to my house and quickly went inside.
“You weren't gone very long.” Mom said looking over at me from the living room.
“Umm, yeah, I was running so I thought that was enough exercise.” I started making my way up stairs.
“Dinners in an hour!” Mom yelled up to me. I went into my room, closed the door and leaned up against it. My mind was running a million miles per minute. I shook my head and went over to my laptop and turned it on. I've been researching a lot about my kind and I know I read something about when you smell a scent you are attracted, to it means something, but I don't remember. I looked through my computer trying to find my research article. Ah, there it is. My eyes grew wide when I found what I was looking for, I found my mate! I also ran away from him. Fuck. I ran out of my room to Hope's room.
“Hope! You would not believe what just happened!” I squealed. Hope looked at me with a questionable look. “I think I found my mate!” Hope jumped up and squealed.
“What?! How? When?!” I told her about my walking into the woods and smelling the wonderful scent. “Well, did you meet him?” I shook my head.
“No, I didn't get the chance. I ran away. I didn't know what it meant and it freaked me out. But his wolf is beautiful, he's all black with deep brown eyes.” I said in awe.
“Maybe you'll meet him on your hike tomorrow? You never know.” I shrugged.
“Maybe, Wait! What if it's Callum! I really like him! Maybe I can only smell his scent when he's in his wolf form?” I said excitingly.
“There's only one way to find out and that's tomorrow.” I agreed.
“Girls, time for dinner!” Mom yelled up the stairs. Hope and I walked downstairs to go eat. It looked like we were having chicken breast, broccoli and quinoa.
“Looks good mom.” I said. I ate some of my food until I decided I had eaten enough and got up to go throw it away.
“Honey, you barely ate anything, you sure you're full?” I looked down at my plate. I still had over half of my food left.
“Yeah, I had a big lunch earlier.” I threw away my food and went upstairs. It was almost 8pm, so I went back on my laptop to finally start researching dance studios. Feeling satisfied with my research, since I think I found one that would be the perfect fit for me, I got up and got ready for bed. Once in bed I started thinking of my mate. I mean I have only seen his wolf form, but I know he's gonna be handsome. I fell asleep thinking about him.
THE NEXT MORNING
“Callie, wake up. Callum is gonna be here soon.” Hope said coming into my room. I groaned and got out of bed. Who decides to start a hike at 9am? Oh right, Callum. I went to my closet and pulled on my shorts and a short sleeve shirt. I went downstairs to get a canteen and filled it with water. There was a knock on the door. I went to go get it, but mom got it before me. Shit.
“Hello I'm Susan, Callie's mom. You must be Callum, she talks a lot about you.” I ran to the door and moved my mom out of the way. Callum just laughed. He had a great laugh. Really? Shut up Callie, you don't even know if he's your mate yet.
“Sorry about her, lets go before it starts getting too warm.” I pushed Callum towards his car. He waved at my mom.
“Nice to meet you, Ms. Stone.” We got in the car and we headed towards a hiking spot. The whole car ride, we were quiet, except for the radio. After a while, we finally got to the hiking spot.
“Alright, we are here. You ready? It's going to be like, a 5 mile hike.” Callum got out of the car and opened my door for me. I got out of the car and nodded.
“I was ready yesterday.” We both laughed. We started walking towards the trail, hand in hand. It felt right to hold his hand and be with him at this moment. We were probably a mile and a half into the hike, when I smelt his sent again. My mate. I looked over and Callum, who was still next to me, climbing over a tree limb. I sniffed in his direction. It's not him. We kept walking and I noticed a man ahead of us, leaning against a tree in shorts and a tight black t-shirt. He was staring at me. I looked into his eyes. I slightly gasped, those were the eyes. The deep brown eyes the wolf had. He's my mate.
