jade reeves;

"baby jade!" a deep voice rings through my ears, a large smile spreading onto my face.

baby jade is what the whole block calls me. everyone says i'm the baby of the block, the one that needs to be protected most.

"baby o!" i turn around, walking backwards now and mocking him.

"it's big o," he catches up to me and i see his raised eyebrow.

i love teasing oscar, he's so easy. oscar is like the dad of the block, well, our side of the block. he does his best to protect all of us and keep everyone safe from the other side; the red bloods.

"where's your bro?" oscar asks in a serious voice, intriguing me more.

"matthias?" i question.

"nah, cesar."

"what do you need cesar for?"

"he owes me jade."

confusion ran through my body while concern filled my veins.

cesar, matthias, and i made a pact that we would never get involved in the gang, no matter what. we didn't want anyone of us to be put in danger. yeah, we are friends with members but we promised to never get involved with the gang aspect.

"what does he owe you for?" i quiz him.

"nothin you don't need to worry bout baby. no need to get involved." he simply says, leaving me hanging.

"oscar-" i begin but he cuts me off.

"jade." he says sternly, commanding me to stop.

he walks back the way he came without another word.

i continue to walk down the road.

cesar better not be in danger.

"what was that about baby j?" i hear jaggers voice coming from my right.

i wait up for him as he finishes coming down his walkway, unhooking the chain link gate at the end.

"i think cesar is in danger jag," i tell him, hoping he can help me.

jagger could help me figure out what cesar got himself into.

"how?" jagger questions, worried for cesar as well.

"he owes the gang."

"red bloods?" jagger yells in shock, his voice could be heard by the whole block.

"no! the santanas." jagger relaxes, thankful that cesar didn't owe the rival gang something.

"what does he owe and why does he owe it?"

"oscar wouldn't tell me anything." a sigh leaves my mouth.

"let's chop it up with cesar." he suggests.

i pull out my old iphone, texting the group chat la familia.

"oscar told me you owe him, cesar." i look cesar straight in the eye.

"you owe the gang!" matthias yells at cesar. "you said you wouldn't get involved!"

the palm of cesar's hand makes contact with the table, causing a loud bang to fill the room. "well now i'm involved!"

"what the fuck did you do to the gang?" i raise my voice to their volume.

"i snitched them out to a gang of white boys in greenwich." cesar says monotoned.

"greenwich? since when is there a gang in greenwich?"

"and why does it matter anyways? it's a gang of white boys." matthias adds.

"white boys with money, a lot of money." cesar informs.

"money doesn't beat power." jagger says.

"jag," i warn. "money is power."

"forget about the money! why would you snitch on the santana's? why not the red bloods?" matthias wants answers out of cesar.

"matthias, i did snitch on the red bloods." cesar articulates. "then i accidentally said something about the santana's and now they know."

"shit cesar."

"i know i fucked up okay but i talked to oscar and he said i can make it up to the gang." he defends.

"how?" jagger, matthias, and i say in unison.

"i have to act like i'm gonna join the greenwich gang and get shit on them then, report it back to oscar." cesar looks around the table. "if i don't, i'm dead."
