Chapter 28 - Should I give up?

Chapter 28.

It's four and half weeks till the wedding of the year and we've sorted out the venue and the dresses, we left the boys to sort the suits out but Katie's practically been having kittens worrying they won't pull through in time. The bridesmaids dresses are a pastel pink but my god, Katie's dress is beautiful. Also I've been on several dates with Marc now, he's so lovely, he taught me how to surf, we went to the big zoo in L.A, it's been a relief because I've wanted to avoid home since Luke's been bringing Chantel round more often, the tension can be cut with a knife. However, tonight we've decided to have family film night and Jai has told Luke that he can't bring Chantel round which surprisingly he agreed too.

I bring through some snacks as the boys choose what film they want to watch, Jai shouts me and pats the seat next to him so I sit down next to him, Luke's last one through and the only space is next to me, he looks at it and walks over reluctantly sitting down creating as much space between us as possible, this really upsets me as it wasn't that long ago I was sharing a bed with him.

"What have you chosen to watch then?" Katie asks bring through a bottle of wine for us.

"White chicks" Skip smiles and looks around to everyone else, my stomach tugs when I remember this is the film me, Luke, Georgia and Skip watched together on our first unofficial date. Luke obviously realises the same and goes to stand up, "Sit the fuck down" Beau shouts.

"Have you done this on purpose?" I say quietly.

"Maybeeeeeee" Skip laughs.

"You're a douche" Luke mutters.

"Before I press play, I need to talk to you all about something" Skip says seriously.

"You're not pregnant are you?" James laughs.

"I want to fight for custody of Alfie" he starts, "I know everyone thinks I'm a douche and a fail at everything, I can never be serious but I miss him so much guys it hurts. I'm fine when I'm with you lot but then I go on my phone and see pictures of him or when I'm in bed at night. I can't cope with this, I know we don't know when we're going back to Australia yet but I want him to come and live here ......"

"I think that's an amazing idea" I smile.

"Yeah me too bro" Luke actually agrees with me, everyone agrees that they'll be here for him.

"Thanks guys, you're the best" he grins and presses play.

As the film plays I can't stop thinking about the first time me and Luke watched it, it was the night Georgia and Skip exchanged numbers and me and Luke recited bits and ran out, the night we almost kissed but didn't. Now here we are ignoring each other, not even friends let alone in a relationship. I look over at Luke and I honestly think he's thinking the same thing, he moves on the couch slightly whereas before he was trying every little bit of his power not to even let his leg touch mine. But as the film ends my foot is touching his thigh, which is progress ... maybe Skip isn't as daft as we think he is.

"Another film?" Georgia asks, jumping up off the couch. She seems to be taking the split well. Nothing much has changed apart from she moved bedrooms, they still get on so well and as far as I know neither of them have got with anyone else.

"Yeah but you can choose" I smile. After the argument with Luke the other day Georgia had asked me if I wanted to talk but I said it was just best to leave it, I could handle this on my own there was no point making it look like I was getting my friends to 'gang up on her', I'm sure she'll get bored soon.

By the end of the second film, my legs are on Jai and my head is on Luke's lap, he's got his arm draped around my side as Katie puts on another one I don't even remember what it is because as soon as it starts I fall asleep, I swear at one point though, I feel Luke kiss the side of my head, but I'm not sure if I'm dreaming or not.
