My eyes opened and i shot straight up, balancing myself on either arm.
"Ahh-" i winced cradling my left arm. I removed my hand for a second and saw blood running down my hand from my arms.
"I have got to get out of here." I stood up and tied my grey and black flannel around my neck and wounded arm, making myself a sling. Then came the fun part. Walking.
Hi, my name is Zoey Rose. Well, that's all I know. I don't know where I am, or where I came from.
I started walking up the road to wherever, making sure to stay on the side just in case a car came rolling through. Not like there were any cars, that i've seen in the first place. It was at that moment, I flipped my head around, with my wavy mess of brunette hair in my face. I pushed my hair back looking around. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I shrugged it off, thinking I might just be paranoid, but then I felt a cold blast of wind encase my body, and next thing you know, I fell onto the ground unconscious.
"Is she going to be okay?"
"Yes she is going to be just fine she just needs time to—"
These voices were not ones i've recognized. One of them, sounded like a young female, age twenty two maybe. The other, sounded like a middle aged male, his voice deep and smooth. I opened my eyes, and sat up.
"Hello?"
The woman standing in front of me, breathed a sigh of relief while clasping her hands over her chest.
"Thank you lord that this girl is okay. I found you on the side of the road knocked out, so I brought you here."
I scrunched my eyebrows and made a confused face. This woman seemed absolutely bonkers. Her looks made up for it though I guess."Thank you, for bringing me here, and saving my life I guess, but if I may ask, where is here? And who are you people?"
She turned and whispered a few things to the man in the white coat. After the whispers, the man turned to me and asked me "How much do you remember?"
I answered to be polite, and told him I only remembered my name. Actually my exact answer was "I'm Zoey Rose.", but i'm pretty sure that's about all he needed to know I didn't know much else. The man then walked out of the room to run some errands i'm sure, but when he left, i asked the woman again."Where is here?" I turned to look with my big, bright, chartreuse green eyes. "Honey... you're in Topeka. Topeka, Kansas." We sat in silence for a few minutes. "Are you sure all you remember is your name?" she quietly asked. I slowly nodded my head. "I-" I started off.
"I wish I could go home... but I guess I can't exactly go home, if I don't know where home is..." a warm tear inked with mascara rolled down my cheek. I threw my hand across my face to wipe it off.
"I-" the pretty lady piped in. "I can see if I could take you back to my place, at least until you can remember something." She went to go find the doctor. The pretty lady smiled at me before she left the room. I looked around that room, careful not to move too much because I was hooked up to an IV cable. It was at that moment, I shut my eyes.Laughter filled the air around me. There was a soft breeze pushing the long blades of grass. Then, followed the loud blaring of alarms. "Zoey! Get inside!" I heard someone call. I turned to look, but I couldn't see anything. "Hello?" I called out, then a beautiful woman grabbed me by the arm, rushing me inside. Her eyes were filled with tears. We got to a nice house and she slammed and locked the door. She cupped my face in her hands, soft as silk. "Zoey... you know what to do... hide, and don't let them find you. I love you." The woman than kissed my forehead. Banging had started on the door, as if the door were going to break. The woman gasped. "They're here." She handed me a backpack. "This should last you a while. Now hide!" She pushed me away and I ran to a secret spot where you could remove the floor board. I shoved my small figure into the gap and carefully placed it back. Gunshots and screams filled the room. I stayed hidden for a while, even falling asleep in the process. When I woke up, everything was quiet. I removed the floor board once again so I could get myself out. Upon removing myself, I saw the woman, laying on the floor, in a pool of blood. She held a note which read—
I awoke gasping for air. The clock beside me read 9:30 pm. I swear the last time I saw it, the clock read 4:45. I have been asleep for about 6 hours. I got up, or tried to get up, however I was still connected to the IV, which prevented me from moving. The room was dark so it was hard to look at my surroundings. I heard footsteps approach the room I was in, so I pretended to go back to sleep. That didn't work out as well as I thought, because they flipped a switch which caused bright lights to turn on.
"Zoey, I'm Dr. Lancaster" he said introducing himself. "and I just wanted to let you know, you're at the hospital, and you're going to be fine. In fact, you will be discharged tomorrow. Harper will be taking you back to her house."
I smiled at him, quietly mouthing a "thank you" before he turned the lights off again, encasing the room in darkness. "Harper." I thought to myself. "That's her name. Now i won't have to refer to her as 'the pretty lady'." I thought about her kind gesture, taking home a stranger who barely even knows who she is. Or maybe Harper knew more about me, than I did myself.
